Combi boilers

Combi boilers can be a great space-saving solution for smaller homes. With a combi boiler, a balanced flue, some pipes, and a few radiators, you have all the necessary components of a fully-fledged central heating system.

If you have a combination boiler, you have no need for a water pump, storage cylinder, feed and expansion cylinder, or any other separate components, and the fact that you don’t need any of these bulky components can save you a considerable amount of space. Combination boilers are now the most common type used in Britain.

A combination boiler is able to provide instant hot water by using the heat from the central heating system to heat freshly drawn water. However, the one drawback of this approach is that it can only supply hot water to one outlet at a time, so if you’re having a shower, you had better make sure that nobody uses another hot tap while you are in there, or you could be in for a nasty cold shock.

Another drawback of the combination boiler is that it cannot provide hot water and central heating simultaneously. The hot tap, or shower, acts as a switch between these two modes, so that when you turn on the hot tap, the central heating goes on, and vice versa.

However, combination boilers tend to be a good deal cheaper than their component counterparts, so you could up saving money as well as space with one of these flexible units.

There are a selection of combination boilers to choose from, and these are the: Combined Primary Storage Unit – this is a combi that also stores a large amount of water. This means that radiators heat more quickly as water flow rate is increased - Combi instantaneous boiler – this is the most popular combi as water is heated instantly direct from the mains, meaning no wait for hot water - Combi instantaneous condensing boiler – this is the most efficient type of instantaneous boiler available, making it the best choice for those of you who are environmentally conscious.
