Commercial Outdoor Lights

Unless you have a few suites on the twentieth floor of an office building, it is likely that you either have had or will have to think about installing or replacing your outdoor commercial lights. There are many reasons to install lighting on the exterior of your business, and the each of the myriad of uses requires a different type of lighting. Finding the correct commercial outdoor lights for your needs can be a Herculean feat, but by looking carefully at your project, and consulting with an expert if necessary, you can significantly narrow down your choices, and possibly save money along the way.

How could lighting help to cut down on your bottom line? There are several ways this is accomplished. First, by installing energy efficient commercial outdoor lights, you can save on their operating costs, which will keep your electric bills lower. Energy efficient lights are easy to find now. You will want to look for low-voltage lights. These should not be used, however in areas that require a lot of very bright light, such as lighting a parking lot or sporting arena. For those applications, you need high voltage lights and a professional electrician to install them. The only type of lighting that a lay person should try to install on their own is low voltage lighting. This is due to ease of use and safety concerns. If you will be using low-voltage outdoor commercial lights, you will need a transformer to bring the 120V coming from the outlets down to the 12 or 24V of the lighting fixture. When you are choosing transformers, remember that the sum total of all the lights attached to it must be less than the power load the transformer is capable of. This prevents overload and transformer failure.

Besides being energy efficient, you should also be concerned with safety and security. Commercial outdoor lights fill both of these needs by reducing or eliminating shadows where criminals might lurk. Exterior lighting also makes working outside a safe option for your employees. There is a greater likelihood of accidents occurring if the lighting under which they are working is too dim or has too many sharp shadow contrasts. You will also have to think about the safety and security of the lights themselves. The mounting height of your lights needs to be out of reach of vandals, but still accessible for bulb and ballast replacements. Height alone, however, will not ensure that your outdoor commercial lights are safe from miscreants. You might want to consider re-enforced HID vandal proof lighting. This can help you save in the costs of bulbs and lamps on sign lighting which might be broken by pranksters.

There are many different choices for outdoor commercial landscape lighting kits, and if you are unsure of the type of lighting. Take a look at its application. Will you need it as security lighting? Or will it add an ambiance to your outside space? If you do not know how to install these lights, you will need to consult with a professional electrician. He can answer any questions you might have which are specific to your project. You can even find expert advice which does not require hiring a contractor to complete the job. This is a good option for those who wish to install their commercial outdoor lights on their own. If you have any questions, please ask our expert. He can assist with all your commercial lighting needs.
