Cut the Clutter, Organize Your Home and Make Space For a Howard Miller Wall Clock

You might be wondering how others do it: manage a career and handle a home. Are these women -or men - simply born with the gift of magic? Not really. Organizing your home and making it look spic-and-span is not as complicated as you think. Here are a few tips that you can take:

Create a Home Calendar

Yes, as in the corporate office, you need to schedule your household chores. Therefore, your majestic Howard Miller wall clock is not just there to tell you when it's time to have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Such a piece of furniture can also tell you when you must attend to household cleaning.

At first, scheduling your clean-up may feel uncomfortable because these are things that are supposed to come naturally (read: when there's clutter, clean up). But this should not be the case; with or without clutter, you must have a regular cleaning schedule. You've probably spent hundreds of dollars for that Howard Miller wall clock so might as well use it to the fullest.

Cut the Clutter

Most people - women especially - keep things that are of no use to them anymore. Yes, those blouses, pants, and pairs of shoes that won't fit you anymore are still in your closet because you simply like the thought of having them around. No, you have not used them for years but still, they are in your closet, taking up space. Your antique Howard Miller wall clock may have ticked-tocked a million of times already but those items are kept unmoved, untouched and un-washed!

Perhaps it's time to toss them. This is not saying that you should throw them into the garbage. Maybe you can donate them to charitable institutions. This way, you can help the needy and the less fortunate.

Of course, this does not only apply to your clothes. Search your room for other not-useful-to-you-anymore- but still-usable-to others items. Perhaps you have still kept your high school textbooks of your five-year-old beanbag. If you feel generous, you can even donate that old Howard Miller wall clock if you have tons of other Howard Miller's.

Strategize the Layout of your Furniture

Sometimes, the mess that you see at home is because of the fact that you do not have a strategic house layout. You'd be surprised of how much "house space" you can save if you only put your furniture on a strategic location.

To be able to do this, you don't need to have a degree in Interior Designing as common sense will do. For instance, putting cabinets in between the living room and the dining room cuts the whole space. While this will provide a division of these two rooms, putting the cabinet near the wall will give you more space and will create an elongated line of vision. As a result, you feel that the room has "lengthened."

Also, do not cover your hundred-dollar Howard Miller wall clock with an oversized TV stand. The whole act defeats the purpose of having a wall clock.

Home management is just like managing your tasks in the office. You need schedules, timelines and strategic thinking. So before you stress yourself out for not getting your preferred "home feel and look," ask yourself first: have I properly managed my household chores? If you haven't, then you might want to reconsider your priorities.
