Electricity saving ideas

The electricity bill used to be one of the most important expenses of my house. Month in month out a lot of money was flying out  my family's pocket directly to the electricity company. When that bill begame too important to ignore, I decided to get more serious with it and find some solutions to save us from this burden.

After several days of thinking, I came up with a series of electricity saving ideas. Here, they are in a random order:

- Make sure that all your house lamps are compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL). This can reduce your electricity consumption by 5-10%.

- Cover you water heater with a good hot water jacket. This can save you a 10-15% of the electricity bill depending in the geographical locaton of your house.

- Avoid using excessively airconditioning. Well, this can cost you a lot of money but it all depends from the needs you have. If you live in a fourty degrees city then it may be impossible to do anything about that.

- Make sure that the house is insulated very well: good windows and doors can be very important for your pocket. Good use of insulation can cost you some money to put in place but after one year of use you will start saving money.

- Throw away any appliances that are too old and consume a lot of energy. New models are always more efficient, including your TV.

- Turn off lights whenever they are not neccesery.

- Produce your own electricity. Hands down this is the best method. I installed a combination of sonar panels and wind mills that produced two times more electricity than my house needed. I know that it seems difficult to believe, but my family now pays $0 to the electricity company saving more than $120 every month from the family budget. I found this company that offers Do-It-Yourself instructions on how to make electricity generating appliances. I bought the off the shelp components, followed the Lego like instructions and quickly found my self with an impressive arsenal of energy producing tools. If you want more instructions on this, have a look on this amazing electricity saving ideas site.
