Enjoy a Clean Home with These Organizing Tips

Has your jewelry collection outgrown your jewelry box? Do you have to spend fifteen minutes untangling chains before you can put on the necklace you want to wear? Have you ever been stuck wearing your second choice pair of earrings because you misplaced one of your favorite earrings? Sadly, most jewelry boxes really are not up to the task of keeping your jewelry collection organized. Try these tips to help keep your rings, earrings, necklaces and other jewelry neatly organized and easy to find.

A jewelry armoire is a larger version of a jewelry box, a freestanding piece of furniture that is specifically designed to keep all of your precious jewelry neat, organized, and untangled. Most jewelry armoires feature a ring tray and several padded drawers with sections to hold a pair of earrings each. Often, they have doors that open to reveal a padding board with hooks to hold your necklaces, chains, and bracelets.

A jewelry armoire is a classic all-in-one solution for storing all of your jewelry, but they can be a bit pricey. If you are on a small budget, you can easily put together your own jewelry organization system from bits and pieces that you can pick up at hardware stores and home organization stores.

Keeping your earrings together is easy when you think in compartments. One of the cheapest and easiest ways to store your earrings is in small organizer boxes designed to hold nails and screws on your hardware bench. You can go a bit fancier with a set of plastic compartment drawers that sit on your dresser and hold your rings and earrings.

If you want something a bit more elegant, you can buy acrylic earring trays and drawers to hold your earrings and other trinkets, or velvet lined jewelry trays that stack on top of each other.

On the other hand, you can show off your earring collection. Use a board padded with Styrofoam and wrapped in velvet to hold your entire earring collection. Posts can be pressed right into the foam. Screw cup hooks into the padding to hang fishhook earrings from, or wrap a ribbon across the board and slide your fishhooks over the ribbon to keep them securely in place. Pick up a little trinket box to keep a supply of earring backs handy so you can always be able to find them when you need them.

Keep necklaces tangle free with a dedicated necklace rack. You can find inexpensive standing racks that hold up to a dozen chains and necklaces. You can make your own necklace holder with a small corkboard and a set of T-pins. Just push the pins into the corkboard and hang your necklaces to keep them neat and untangled. You can even repurpose a mug tree to hold your chokers and necklaces. Simply hang a necklace from the cup hooks or pegs. Perk it up with a coat of paint to match your bedroom colors for a unique, one of a kind fashion accent.

Keep your rings safe with a center post ring holder. There are hundreds of styles of ring holders available in ceramic, crystal and other materials, but you can make your own with a wooden dowel. Choose a dowel that is slightly smaller than the diameter of your smallest finger and be sure to sand it well. You can even wrap it in velvet to prevent scratching the soft metal of your precious rings.

One elegant solution to storing and organizing your jewelry, even at home, is a jewelry travel organizer bag. Jewelry organizer bags are designed to keep your jewelry neat and organized in your suitcase while you travel, so you know they can do a good job of it sitting on your dresser top or your top dresser drawer. They have special compartments to hold your rings, earrings, and necklaces. Many of them roll up into a ribbon-wrapped package, but there are many different styles. Some of them even hang in your closet from a swivel hook. They are available in sizes that hold up to eighty pieces of jewelry.

Some pieces of jewelry need special treatment. Diamonds, for instance, should always be stored in their own compartments. This is not to protect the diamond, but to protect other gems in your jewelry box from its sharp edges. Pearls are soft and easily damaged, so they should always be stored in a soft back that is free of dust and other tiny particles that could scratch the delicate surface. Many other natural gemstones also should be stored in individual pouches to keep them safe from other stones and metals in your jewelry box.

A jewelry box is the perfect addition to your bedroom because it helps keep your jewelry organized and easy to find. The main benefit of this organization is that it can be more difficult to misplace one of your earrings. Follow these tips and you can be on your way to a well-organized jewelry collection.
