Adding a memory foam mattress to a futon will increase the comfort and support level enormously. So no longer does the futon mattress have to be the least comfortable place to sleep in the entire house. Before memory foam was invented the mattress that went on a futon was essentially just an inch are two of thick, traditional cloth. Now since memory foam has been introduced to futon mattress it has transformed the futon into a place to sleep that's actually comfortable.
The mattress for a futon is thinner than any conventional mattress. It's essential that it is this thin because of the function and the design of the futon. The mattress must be thin enough so that the folding function of the furniture can be accommodated.
With memory foam being introduced to the futon mattress the game for the futon has completely changed. Because of the elasticity of memory foam it can easily be folded up exactly like a futon mattress does. So now days you don't have to use the plain (and rock hard) 2 inch thick cloth mattress.
What Is Memory Foam?
Memory foam is a basic polyurethane foam that has had certain chemicals added to it to make it Visco elastic. Visco-elastic foam is on other name for memory foam. Visco-elastic foam reacts to temperature and pressure from your body. If you've ever laid on memory foam then you know that when you first lay on it it feels slightly cold and slightly firm but after a moment or two the foam begins to warm and soften allowing you to slowly sink slightly down into it.
The way the memory foam works by allowing you to sink down into it provides for incredible comfort and unparalleled support. It completely relieves pressure and stress by eliminating what are called pressure points. Pressure points are caused by conventional innerspring, latex, or air mattresses because they don't "give way" and actually "push back" against your body. This forces you to toss and turn, wake up with aches and pains, and even partially block the circulation of blood. The memory foam mattress prevents all of this by completely eliminating pressure points. It eliminates pressure points by evenly distributing the weight of your body over the entire face of the mattress so it's not concentrated on certain parts like a traditional mattress does. Your body is cradled by the foam, meaning the parts of your body that are the heaviest such as your head, legs, hips, and shoulders are all held equally. This is what accounts for the support and comfort of a memory foam mattress.
Finding A Memory Foam Futon Mattress
Finding a memory foam futon mattress is not difficult. Because of the popularity of memory foam you can find these types of mattresses offline or online. Offline you can try your local mattress store. The only problem you may run into is that the local mattress store will probably not have the futon memory foam mattress in stock and will have to order it (and this usually means that you'll incur an order and delivery fee). You can try your local futon store if there's one nearby. Your best bet may be to shop online. Online you have access to thousands of retailers and manufacturers. And the online retailers tend to have frequent sales, good warranties, and free shipping. So do your due diligence and look for the best deal on a memory foam mattress for your futon.
