Niels Joergen Haugesen is one of the celebrated furniture designers who has achieved much success with a few furniture designs. His furniture designs were done in a way close to perfection, which earned Niels the nickname 'the minimal maximum' among his contemporary furniture designers.

Niels Haugesen is mostly recognised for the design work that he did on the Haugesen table and the chair which was named the X-line. Niels is Danish by birth, and he was born in 1936.

Niels designed the distance seating collection which derived its name from its outstanding salient features. These features included the split back support in which the top most section looks like it is floating on top of the lower.
