Although not every home has a furnace air filter, it is something you should seriously consider buying if you feel that the dust in your home is a major health problem. All homes, especially ones in the city, are full of dust which can come from various sources such as pollen, dead skin, bacteria, mold spores, pet dander and car exhaust fumes. Any activity we carry out in the home, whether it be vacuuming, cooking, dusting or brushing your pet, the amount of dust in the air will dramatically increase. You probably have no idea the true extent of a dust problem you have. Even the dust you can see is only a tiny fraction of what is really there.
Many people with allergies such as asthma and rhinitis find that dust and dust mite droppings are the major cause of their problems. This can be a really difficulty when you are trying to clean your home because doing so helps stir up a lot of dust. 99% of all dust isn't visible so it's no wonder that dust is so problematic. Dust can be so tiny that you would have to use a microscope to be able to see it. Dust is a major cause of coughing, wheezing, nasal congestion, asthma attacks plus some other conditions such as decreased lung function and heart attacks.
Luckily you don't have to put up with all this dust in your home as there are a number of different products on the market to help allergy sufferers. One product you should investigate is a furnace filter or even an air conditioning filter. One of the best types you can buy is one which uses HEPA technology as it can eliminate a lot of different types of dust particle which then allows you to breathe much easier.
However it's important to note that you need to keep your furnace filter well maintained if you want to get the best results from it. Always take time to read the manufacturers instruction and ensure you follow all the guidelines. If you don't look after it, your unit will cease to function as it was intended and this can cause restricted airflow which then can go onto causing carbon monoxide leaks.
When looking at the different models of furnace air filter you will notice that there is a MERV rating listed. This rating gives you an indication of how well the filter does its job and a rating level of at least 11 is recommended if you want to have the best air quality in your home.
Air which is free from pollution is very important to anyone who suffers from allergies and it is well worth investigating all the different types of air filtration which can also include air ionizers and ozone generators.
