How to Clean Your Upholsteries at Home

Caring for your upholstery is a major part of proper household cleaning. However, it is often neglected. For example, When we are vacuuming the floors, do we take the time to vacuum the upholstery as well? The honest answer is no. However, it should be done on a weekly basis like the floor.

Before we do the floor vacuuming, it is better to do Vacuuming the furniture. It removes surface soil preventing the dirt from becoming embedded in the fibers. Sometimes, use a soft brush to whisk dirt away instead. Remember to rotate loose cushions. It extends your furniture's life. It allows an even distribution of wear and tear. In this way.your cushions won't develop
indentations. Also, Turning and fluffing the cushions helps to keep them in shape. Change the cushions around from one part to the other as some seats get used more then other ones. So, changing the cushions distribute an even amount of use. It is very important to keep your furniture out of direct sunlight. It can cause your furniture to fade or fry. For Silks extra care is needed as they are more delicate.

Smoke or fumes and odor from cooking can harm your fabric in your home. It is important to have proper ventilation. Prevention is the best way to keep clean.

How to avoid stains and dirt on your furniture? It is a tough one. It needs discipline by everyone at home to adhere and would not forgets this rule, Do not to allow anyone to eat on the couch, loveseats or chairs. Eat only in the dinning room where chairs come with removable and machine washable covers. Do not allow shoes on the couch. All people take off their shoes before they even sit on it. Also, do not allow dogs on the furniture or even in the same room as the upholstery you are trying to protect.

Highly recommend to use fabric protector. If your furnitures are protected, removing a stain is easy as blotting it up. However, if you do not have a fabric protector on your furniture, you need to act real quick by blotting up as much of the liquid as you can with a clean towel. Remember never rub the fabric. It can cause more damage. Use a spot cleaner specifically designed for upholstery. Read all of the manufactures instructions first then test the product in an inconspicuous area to make sure that it does not damage your fabric. Gently apply the cleaner into the fibers with a soft brush in a circular motion. When it's dry vacuum clean. You are done now!
