If you’re like me, you want to spend as much time as possible outdoors during the summer months. Unfortunately though, after sitting in an office for eight hours it’s not always easy to find the time to go to the beach or take a long bike ride. That’s why it’s important to have a comfortable place in your own home where you can lounge around and enjoy the amazing weather. If you’re lucky enough to have a backyard or patio area, you want to make sure that it’s as comfortable and inviting as possible, so you’ll always be able to relax after a long day’s work. If you’re hesitant about decorating your outdoor space, there are a few tips that you can keep in mind to guide you in the process.
1. First take a good look around at your outdoor area. Make note of the size and shape. This will help you determine the best way to utilize the space and what type of patio furniture you should purchase. If your patio is relatively small, you’ll want avoid clutter as much as possible. Smaller, space-saving furniture will give you the most out the area. Try to look for furniture that incorporates storage space into the design. Sleek designs will also make the space look a lot more open than heavier styles.
2. Next, think about the function of your patio. Do you love having friends over for dinner parties? Or do you prefer just sitting out and reading a book by yourself? How you plan to utilize the space should be reflected in your design. If you’re looking to entertain often, then you’ll want to buy furniture that will be large enough and comfortable enough for your friends and family. You may need to purchase a large dining set or even a patio sectional. But if the patio is mainly just for your own use, then maybe all you need is a couple of chaise lounges.
3. After you’ve chosen your patio furniture, don’t be afraid to add some color! It will really add to the aesthetic appeal of the space. An easy way to do this is by adding an outdoor-friendly rug or some pillows. Adding flowers and other plants is also a great way to spruce up a dull space. Look for bright, vibrant colored plants to incorporate into the design of your patio. Deep greens will give a truly nature-inspired look with very little effort on your part.
4. Finally, don’t forget about proper lighting. There is nothing like spending a beautiful summer evening outdoors. So you’ll want to make the transition from day to night seamless. There are endless options. Hanging lights can give the space a romantic feel and Tiki torches can give it a fun party atmosphere. A fire pit can also be a great option.
Your patio should be an extension of your personality, so don’t be afraid to express your own style with funky accents or wild patterns. Just remember that you want to keep the space free from clutter, try your best to optimize space with space-saving furniture, add some color to spice things up and invest in some good lighting to set the mood at night.
