Cleaning your window curtain, especially the heavy ones, can be a nightmare; yet you can escape from it by employing effective ways to clean your curtain. You can avoid problems that are usually associated when cleaning your curtains by following these tips:
1. Separate your window curtains according to size, fabric, and color. Organize them accordingly. Don't load the curtains all at the same time. Wash the curtain by group, one at a time. You may also choose to do it room by room.
2. If your washing machine cannot accommodate your heavy curtains or drapes, it is wise to have them cleaned professionally. Taking your heavy window curtain to professional cleaning services will certainly eliminate your nightmares and handle your curtains with care. Ensuring that your curtains are completely cleaned and cared for is definitely worth the cost of the services. For your drapes, you may have to take them to the dry cleaning services for corresponding cleaning. If there are special instructions for cleaning the drape, you need to remind the service provider.
3. If you need to wash your window curtain yourself, carefully check the label for special cleaning instructions. If the need arises, you may also wish to contact the store where you bought the curtain for laundry procedures. In washing your curtain, it will help to use lukewarm water to wash the curtain, and cool water to rinse off.
4. Choose the right detergent for your window curtain. Follow specific instructions including the use of the right amount of detergent, whether it's liquid or powder. Your detergent should also match the sensitivity or delicateness of the fabric from which the curtain is made of. Make sure that the detergent is safe for the kind of fabric of your curtain. If you are going to use bleach, make sure you test a small portion first to see how the fabric will react to it.
5. You should also take the same care when you dry your window curtain. You can dry your curtain in two ways: (1) manually, you hang the curtain outside in a clothesline, and (2) automatically, using the dry cleaner. When you hang your curtain outside, you have to make sure that the clothesline is clean first before hanging the curtain. For the dry cleaner, choose the right temperature for your curtain. Setting the dryer inappropriately may damage the curtain or may cause wrinkles. It will also help that while the curtain is still a bit damp, take it out from the dryer and let it dry in the air naturally.
There may be special instructions that you need to strictly follow when cleaning your window curtain. Some curtain may be better cleaned and dried using a vacuum cleaner. Others may do well with manual cleaning. You may also use fabric softeners in some instances to address odor concerns that your curtain may have.
As your window curtain is not just a decorative piece of fabric in your home but also protect you from dust and heat of the sun, it is important to take good care and pay attention to ensuring that it is well-cleaned.
