Every carpet owner knows that you always need to keep your carpet clean and odor-free if you want a healthy living environment. Carpets are notorious for staining easily and also tend to accumulate a lot of odors, especially when you have pets and young children in the house. So how do you get rid of these stains and odors? Carpet cleaning can actually be quite easy when you follow these tips:
1) Smoke odor – if you live with or are a smoker, then you’ll want to get rid of the smoke smell from your carpet. If this is indeed the case, then baking soda can be your best friend. In order to go about this Los Angeles carpet cleaning procedure, just go get a big bag of baking soda and then sprinkle it over your carpet. The baking soda will absorb the smell. Leave the baking soda overnight to make sure it gets the entire smoke odor out of the rug. Afterwards, you’ll need to vacuum the carpet thoroughly in order to get the baking soda out. You’ll be left with a fresh-smelling carpet.
2) Pet smells – pet smells can also be deodorized using baking soda, but you’ll need to steam clean it in order to really get all the smell out. Another good idea is to place bowls of vinegar on top of particularly problematic areas. White vinegar will absorb the smells and you’ll be left with a fresh-smelling carpet. This will definitely help make carpet cleaning an easier task.
3) General stains – when you spill something on the carpet, make sure to act immediately! Grab a paper towel and soak up as much of the liquid as you can. Most carpets today are treated in order to resist staining, but if you don’t act quickly, the stain will stick to the fibers of the carpet and you’ll have a very hard time getting it out. Another tip is to blot the stain, not scrub it. Scrubbing or wiping the stain will only move the substance around, spreading the stain and making your problem worse. Blotting absorbs the liquid faster and will allow you to minimize the stained area effectively.
4) Coffee- Coffee stains can be quite problematic, as they’re easily noticeable. While there are some commercial coffee stain removers you can buy at any Los Angeles carpet cleaner store, you might also want to try using white vinegar. Dab the water with a hot, wet towel to loosen the stain and dab it with a bit of white vinegar. Afterwards, you should vacuum the rug in order to get the stain out fully. Keep repeating the process until you are satisfied with the result.
5) Red wine – red wine is often the carpet-owner’s nightmare, often causing panic. However, there’s actually a pretty simple solution: use white wine. Applying a bit of white wine on red wine stains, even old ones will allow the color to loosen from the fibers. You can then extract it using a vacuum.
6) Blood – a common mistake people use when cleaning blood stains from carpet is using hot water. The hot water actually causes the blood to turn brown and adhere to the fibers of the carpet even tighter. This makes carpet cleaning an even more tedious process. When cleaning blood, use very cold water with a cleaning solution, this helps make the carpet cleaning task a lot easier. Also remember to act fast, as contact with air will cause the blood to clot and will make your task harder.
7) Juice stains – red juice is particularly problematic for carpet owners. An easy carpet cleaning solution is to moisten a washcloth with a bit of mild detergent solution. Lay the washcloth on top of the stain, get a clothes iron, set it on the lowest setting and place it on top of the washcloth. This is actually pretty much like a DIY steam carpet cleaning setup. Soon, you’ll see the red stain going from your carpet to the washcloth.- Related Videos
