This is a smarter way to save energy, as the machine would not run pointlessly even the garments are dry. Some dryers also have exciting features like crease guard and also an option called Woollens, which permits only woollen garments to dry fast and without creasing. Other features like timer, to time the drying process, heat settings for passing the hot air through the clothes with different temperatures and other special treatment for specific types of fabrics.
Tumble dryers are better when used separately than used along with the washer, all in the same machine. There are washer dryer mixes that have better drying options than the normal ones, but they'd prove much expensive than a tumble dryer.
