Do you want to enhance your home with an indoor fountain? Indoor fountains stimulate all five senses, act as a conversation piece for guests and are available in so many different styles that you can easily find one to suit your décor. Water Fountain Place experts want people to know how simple it is to install one, so they’ve contributed an easy four step process.
Step One: Find the Right Spot for Your Indoor Fountain
Free standing indoor fountains are incredibly portable so you can install them almost anywhere. There are really only a few things to keep in mind. First of all, you should make sure that the floor space is relatively level. This ensures that any mist from the fountain spreads out evenly and that in situations where someone trips over or otherwise jostles the indoor fountain, it’s less likely to spill. The fountain should also be placed within easy reach of an outlet, preferable in such a way as you can hide unsightly cords. One of the best ways to do this is to use nearby plants to conceal the power cord. This works especially well because the fountain will keep the plants healthy by increasing ambient moisture.
If you’re installing an indoor wall fountain you need to deal with one other requirement: a wall strong enough to support the fountain. The water fountain’s instructions should provide clear guidelines. In any event, don’t install a wall fountain on a decorative wall or hang it from nothing but drywall.
Step Two: Deal with Moisture Issues Around the Indoor Fountain
Next, you should make sure your indoor water fountain rests on a moisture resistant surface. Even though well-crafted indoor fountains are water tight there will still be some condensation. One common solution is to cut a layer of Plexiglas large enough to create 12 inches of space around the indoor fountain. 12 inches of clearance is a good basic guideline when it comes to preventing moisture problems in nearby furniture or wallpaper. If your indoor fountain is a wall fountain make sure the wall material is relatively moisture resistant. Don’t worry about it too much as most wall fountains are designed to put a little bit of space between condensation and the wall surface itself.
Step Three: Assemble Your Indoor Fountain On-Site
Whenever possible, assemble your indoor fountain at the installation site. Indoor fountains are stationary pieces of décor. Even though many models (especially tabletop indoor fountains) are both lightweight and simple to install in many cases you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches by putting the fountain together right where you intend it to stay. In many cases all you need to do is plug it in, fill it with water and turn it on, but make sure to always read the indoor fountain’s instructions thoroughly before turning it on. Note any required pieces. Plus, indoor fountains almost never come with “spare parts.” If you have anything left over, you’re missing a step.
If your indoor water fountain is a wall fountain, you’ll have to go through the steps of installing mounting brackets. In this case, make sure the brackets are securely held, and make sure you’re capable of lifting and holding the wall fountain in place to mount it properly. In all likelihood, this will be a two person job, so plan accordingly.
Step Four: Fill Your Indoor Fountain – Then Turn It On!
Fill your indoor fountain with water, make sure the power cord is firmly fixed and away from any misting, then turn it on – it’s that simple. Fill the fountain to the level noted in instructions. If a specific water volume is listed, use a container to transfer the water that lets you note exactly how much of it you’re pouring in. Don’t run the fountain pump “dry.” From then on, all you need to do is check on the indoor fountain’s flow and water quality, cleaning it when required.
