Kitchen Curtains: Light, Privacy and Decor

Installing curtains can change the overall atmosphere of any room. The considerable impact it brings, whilst being cheaper than other decoration, make it a must for home improvement. It easily enhances any rooms theme that it usually tops the list of things-to-do. It is no different when it comes to designing a kitchen. Aside from perfecting the visual appeal of your kitchen, curtains are of course quite practical.

There are certain considerations when it comes to buying a set of curtains. Firstly, it would be wise to assess the kitchen lifestyle. If the kitchen is a busy one, meaning it is being used several times in a day, the curtains need to be more flexible. Being flexible only means that, it can be pulled to the sides, which adjusts the amount of light that enters the kitchen. This is important because the sun that comes in constantly changes in the course of a day. It would also be practical to consider the number of windows and their sizes and where the sun shines through. Another factor is the time when the kitchen is most used. Matters of privacy should also be well-thought. Those living on a busy street, with the expected passersby every hour, should not aim for minimal curtains.

There are different types of curtains to choose from. The first and probably the most common type is the panel curtain. These can slide back and forth on the rod by means of a pocket at the top. These can cover the entirety of the window, can be slid to each corner to be held by a tieback or even complemented by valances.

A kitchen that needs more light can utilize another type called caf curtains. These are intended to cover only the bottom half of the window, allowing some amount of light to flood the room. Most of them are stationary and cannot be pulled back to the corners because they are too short.

Other accessories that can further enhance the aesthetic appeal of kitchen curtains include rods, finials, tiebacks and tassels. The color and print of the fabric to be used, as well as the accessories, should complement the style the kitchen already has. The weight of decoration can also be a basis on how elaborate the curtains should be. If the walls have wallpaper, it might be a good idea to tone down on the decorative aspect of the curtains. If the walls are too plain, then the design of the curtains should be more loud and decorative.

Practicality is another important aspect. Fabric that do not easily get wrinkled or get stained might just do the thing for the kitchen to always look well-kept. Curtains are quite a load to be washed regularly. Resorting to buy fabric meant to be hand-washed or dry-washed, may not be the wisest option. If a cat lives in the household, it also might be a good idea to choose a type of fabric that is not too delicate.

Last but certainly not the least, the safety precautions must be taken into account. The material used for the kitchen curtain should not be fire-hazard. The length must be short enough to make sure that it will never catch fire. The curtains intended for the windows near the stove are most crucial.
