Living Alone And Staying Safe

Living alone and staying safe can make your life more relaxing and give you the freedom you desire. By installing a home security system and keeping doors and windows secure, there are several steps you can take to be safe. Making a detail home security plan and implementing your plan with make you safe while living alone.

If you live in a house, keep your doors and windows locked at all times. This may sound easy enough and it is, just make sure you do it. Have your exterior maintenance to your home complete. Such as window and door repairs, weather damage or worn exterior framing around windows and doors can make it easy for a criminal to access your home. Check the locks on windows and doors to make sure they are in good working order. Place an exit sense bar in windows and sliding patio doors for added security.

Deciding on which home security system to install can be challenging, but remember to secure you and your positions is very important, This would be a great time to incorporate freeze alarms, water alarms and life saving alerts. Life saving alert are great for people who live alone, you do not need to be elderly or ill to benefit from this type of system. Install exterior motion detectors around your home and provide lighting on walk ways and entry areas. Keep landscape trim around windows and near the front entry of your home. Do not give a burglar a place to hide. You may consider having a dog to provide protection. Do not leave your dog outside unattended; it is known that burglars have made friends with dogs in just a matter of a few days, making it much easier to break it to your home. Also most dogs who are outside can become the victims of the crime too. House dogs can provide you safety by notifying you of the intruder.

If you live in an apartment, know your neighbors and their guests, knowing your surrounding it one of the important steps to staying safe. When you feel comfortable with your neighbors exchange phone numbers so you can provide each other a level of security should an emergency arise.

Park your car in a well lit area. Park as close as possible to the front door of your home. Keep windows and doors locked at all times. Get permission from your landlord or property management company to install a digital door lock. This will allow you to enter your home quickly, without having to stand in a public area to look for your keys.

You can install wireless home security system to provide interior safety. By installing a wireless home security system you will be able to take it with you when you leave as well as it will not cause damage to the walls.

Keep safety items in the bedroom and near the front door, such as a flash light and a mobile phone.

Crime, when seeking victims, does not discriminate according to age, race, sex or social status. And chances are some day you, too, will be a victim.
