Tired of all those fabric curtains and window blinds? Are you thinking of an easy, reasonable and fun way to cheer up windows and doorways? Looking for some means to give them a fresher new look? How does a bamboo curtain sound to you? Interesting, isn't it?
There are several reasons why you should make this faux bamboo curtain your next home improvement task. First, this project is very easy to make. It won't take you long to make and finish it. In fact, it is so easy that if you have kids, you can even involve them in making this. It will be a great and nifty recreation activity for parents and their kids. Your kids' involvement in this will add meaning and more special character to your curtains. Second, this task is superbly economical. It uses inexpensive and easy to find materials. You won't need special skills or tools to get the work done. All you'll need is some wooden beads, transparent or clear plastic straws, bamboo rod, bamboo skewers or large-eye needle, yarn, glue and your scissors. And on top of all reasons, making this faux bamboo curtain is a bag of pleasure!
Start this by measuring the length of your window or doorway. Measure and cut your yarn according to this measurement and add a little extra length because you'll need to tie them in your bamboo rod later. Use yarns with earth tone colors. Brown and green yarns will mostly be suitable to create that bamboo look. Multicolored yarns will also be nice to use. Anyway, you can use any color that appeals to you or yarn colors that will match your walls or will complement your overall house theme.
Cut your transparent straws into different lengths. No need to measure them up because it will be useful to have long and short pieces of straws. The basic step in making this particular project is threading. Easy and simple!
Before you start threading, tie a knot at the bottom of your yarn to ensure it will hold the beads and the straws. You don't want them to fall through your yarn so double knot if needed. This will be your base. String up beads and straws alternately through your yarn with the help of a bamboo skewer or a large-eye needle. Basically, you'd like it to follow a bead-straw, bead-straw pattern. Once you've slid your last piece, knot the end as you did with your base.
When you think you have enough number of strands for your curtain, tie them in your bamboo rod. In case you cannot find a bamboo rod, any wooden rod or you're normal curtain rod is ok, too. Remember to space your strands according to where you're going to put them. If you're hanging the curtain in a doorway or a passageway, space them a little apart. About 1 to 1 and a half inches apart for you to be able to see through it. For windows, it is totally fine to have tighter spaced curtain as you'd like to filter light during daytime. You can glue the strands to secure them in place and prevent slippages.
What a promising and exceptional way to add style and character to your windows and doors, right?
