Replacing your old kitchen cabinet with new ones is a major project from finding the right design and the right measurements to dismantling you old cabinets and to finally installing the new one. This home remodeling project takes roughly three to four weeks and entails careful preparation and planning. So let's say you've measured your kitchen, browsed through several home improvement and interior design magazines or research from specific websites and you are now finally into the last phase of getting your new kitchen cabinet.
When ordering your new kitchen cabinet from a store showroom, give them the exact cabinet measurements as well as a drawing if not a photo of your kitchen layout to give them a more concrete idea of what you want done. Be specific about your color and design choices as you would not want the installers to arrive with kitchen cabinets that look entirely different from the ones you ordered. Remember to be thorough when checking the kitchen cabinets upon delivery. Make sure that the cabinet doors and the wood as well as handles are all intact and complete. Check for possible cracks in the wood. Other companies offer both dismantling and installation services. Ask them whether they do both or if you have to dismantle your old kitchen cabinet yourself.
Once you've finally settled on delivery and construction dates, its time to prepare your home and kitchen space. Having new cabinets installed can disrupt your regular household habits. It can be noisy, messy and there will be dust flying around. Before your new kitchen cabinet arrives, make sure you have enough room in your garage where they can be tucked safely as your old cabinets are dismantled. Keep them away from pets, faucets or flowing water just to be sure.
Schedule your kitchen remodeling and cabinet installations at a time when household isn't too busy or better yet when most family members, especially children are on vacation or out of town. Just make sure that a capable adult will be present to supervise the construction. Remove all the contents of your old kitchen cabinet. Have your silverware, dinner and porcelain stored in labeled boxes so that they will be easy to identify and unpack once the new ones have been installed. Make sure to also remove paintings, wall hangings and other breakables not just in the kitchen but in nearby rooms to avoid any accidents.
Purchase disposable paper plates, cups utensils such as spoons and forks as well as knives for you to use. Remember that you won't be able to use your kitchen sink until such time that your new kitchen cabinet has been installed. Have a makeshift kitchen ready with your basic cooking and food preparation needs. It would be best to have your microwave accessible as most of your meals in the next three weeks may have to be done via the microwave or perhaps, take out. It's a tedious process but once you see your new cabinets installed, you'll find it's all worth it.
