Start With Your Attic When Upgrading Your Insulation

In the past few years it seems like the winters are getting colder, and the simmers are getting hotter. This statement feels especially true to those who live in properties that have a lack the proper insulation. It’s not always easy to improve your homes insulation because the majority of that insulation is hidden behind the finished walls and ceilings. The one thing you can do is improve the amount of insulation that is in your attic.

A poorly insulated attic can cause you to lose as much as eighty percent of your heat. In addition, an attic is the one part of your home that you can improve the quality of the insulation relatively easily and inexpensively. A spray on insulation is one alternative when considering the options for added attic insulation. Although with the spray on variety, chances are you’ll have to hire someone, or some company to come in and do the job.

An alternative to using the spray on foam is to go with the traditional fiberglass batting. You buy them down at your local building supply store, and install them yourself, no need to go out and hire someone. The simply fit in between the roof trusses, snuggly, but not compressed, as they will lose their effective insulating properties.

Having the insulation blown in is another alternative. Although you can go out and rent the equipment to complete the job properly, you’ll probably go out and hire someone. Be sure they are a reputable company because they tend to skimp on the amount of insulation they blow in, saving them money and costing a heck of a lot more over time.

To locate the proper information, go on the Internet and do some research. You can get all the information you need, and have it all at your finger tips so you’ll easily be able to compare all the benefits and features of each type.
