Black is beautiful. How many times have you worn that black dress to attract compliments from the onlookers? And how many times would you think of buying a black car as compared to a more sedate beige or white? Well, if you are a black lover like me, I would recommend bringing in your favorite color into yet another place – inside your home.

If you are looking for a contemporary style in your furniture to complement your tastes, a previously unexplored option may well be what you are looking for. A quick look around will give you an idea that life also exists beyond the traditional wood and metal works of this world. One of the latest ‘in’ things is black dining furniture.

The modern dining room has items that make heads turn with their sleek and smart looks. While the basic materials of vinyl, plastic and chrome have been around since the fifties, it is only recently that they have started finding their rightful place inside homes as standard, smart items of furniture such as dining tables and dining chairs. A little scouting around will also result in your getting other pieces of black furniture like a smart looking dining room hutch to complement those exotic souvenirs you collected from your world travels.

Using a stark color scheme like black and white or red and white, or a combination of the two, is sure to attract the attention you so eagerly desire to bring to your hard work. While pastel and regular shades like crème, brown etc have definitely got their place in the scheme of things of regular furniture lovers, it the more stark colors that will give that extra special look to your furnishings.

Black dining furniture, if selected for your room furnishing, can be used in the following manner. A small television set atop a bank of white cabinets which could be used for holding your collection of wine glasses, accompanied by your crystal compilation, scotch bottles and other paraphernalia. Place red crockery holders on the cabinets, use red mats and dining table pad, waste basket and table accessories to add a dash of color to the room. The black part could comprise of the other accessories like the telephone, the microwave, the toaster or the electric grill for that touch of functionality. A color combination used as such is pleasing and would be highly popular with your guests.

If you are amongst those who feel intimidated by the strong color scheme, try starting small. Decorate a small part of the room first, and then slowly graduate to the larger items like the dining table and the dining room chairs.

Your guests spend the major part of their time in the dining room, and that is where they gather their impressions about you as a person and your house-keeping skills. The impression is likely to carry over to the work place if the guest happens to be your boss or any other member of your office. Hence it becomes all the most important for you to create a favorable impression with a smart looking dining room set.

Welcome to the world of smart people who see the world in black and white – no shades of gray for you! Let the world realize how clean of heart you are with one look at your furniture.

I live in a '70's Ranch w/the dreaded sunken- in about 1-ft empty space above the kitchen cabinets. The space is obviously wasted. If I was to install new cabinets it seems like the top ones would still be too high, but at least they would be enclosed and not collect dust and grease. This article mentions building shelves, but does not link instructions. Does anyone know of any EASY diy plans for such? Thanks! Karen P.S. Why doesn't this let you backspace when you make a typo?
