Tips For Buying Quality Area Rugs

Placing an area rug in a room, definitely improves the look of the room. It adds to the warmth in the room and helps in reducing the noise levels. So, if you want to invest in an area rug you select one of good quality which will last for a long time and will also be easy to maintain. Here are a few tips on buying quality area rugs.

First, if you choose a dark color rug, it will make the room appear small. The warm and cozy look will be enhanced. If you buy a rug of light color, it will make the room appear larger than it really is.

You should always measure the area where the rug has to be placed. They generally come in sizes of 4 by 6,  6 by 9 and 8 by 10.You can choose the size that will fit the area that you want the rug to be placed.

Conventionally the rug was always rectangular in shape. Now you get area rugs in different shapes right from round, square, triangular, octagonal etc, which add to the décor of the room.

If the fiber in the area rug is dense, it will be longer lasting.    Some rugs come with a lot of padding. If the rug does not have enough padding you can buy a pad to be placed under the rug. This gives more comfort, warmth and also delays the wear and tear of the rug. It is easier to vacuum clean it and it absorbs the effect of walking on the rug. It reduces the effect of noise on hard surfaces, such as hard wood, tiles and other hard floors.

The price of a rug will depend on whether it is hand made or machine made, whether the fibers used are natural or synthetic. You should check the price and buy the one that you can afford. If you buy a cheap rug, it will not last for a long time and you will have to replace it often. If you buy an expensive rug, you might not use it that often. So, go in for a medium priced rug that is of good quality, which also looks and feels good.

Area rugs are both handmade and machine made. Handmade rugs are more expensive than machine made ones. Some good quality machine made rugs also look a lot like hand made rugs.

Area rugs are made of wool, cotton, silk and nylon.  Choose the one most suitable to you. All of them are of good quality. Cotton rugs are soft to the touch and give a comfortable feel. They are used along with woolen rugs and are not as costly as woolen rugs. Rugs made of wool are of good quality and give a lot of warmth and are very durable. They resist dust mites. Silk area rugs are shiny and beautiful. They should be handled carefully. Nylon rugs are very durable. They are very strong and resist stain. They are not thought of as much as the silk and the woolen rugs. You can buy Oriental, Persian, Egyptian, and Tibetan rugs that are each unique in design, color and shape.

The area rug should complement the color of the walls, the furniture and the decoration of the room. Each area in a home might need a different type of area rug. Choose the one most suited for that particular area. You should see whether there are many people using that particular area and then decide on the material of the rug.  You should also see how the lighting in the room affects the beauty of the rug. The factors such as - color, the material and the cost should be considered. Instead of placing it on the floor, you can put it up on the wall as a decorative piece and decorate the room.

You can buy good quality area rugs at the shops that specialize in them or buy them online. You can browse through the various types of rugs and decide on the one you want to buy. The only disadvantage is that you will not be able to know the density of the fiber and the feel the quality of the rug. So, you should choose an online site where you might be able to return it if you are not satisfied. With these tips you will definitely be able to choose the best quality of area rug for your home.
