Tips on Making Bamboo a part of your Outdoor Living Space

The warm spring and summer months always encourage homeowners to think of new ways to remodel their homes and backyards. Because of the many opportunities to host open air parties and barbecues, it’s only natural that you want your outdoor living space to also reflect your personal design style. Your design aesthetic doesn’t only have to be an indoor concept! From new pool designs, waterfalls and bold colors and patterns for furniture cushions, the options are endless when it comes to redecorating your backyard, patio and outdoor spaces.

Bamboo furnishings and accessories are quickly becoming an emerging trend in the outdoor décor industry. Bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant in the world, with a growth rate of 24 inches per day, and grows widely in East Asia and South East Asia. And because of its quick growth rate, the product is easy to harvest and inexpensive to purchase.

Here are some simple ways to include bamboo into your outdoor living space:

  1. Use bamboo fencing to create a barrier around gardens. Protect the flower beds and plants that you have spent hours grooming and harvesting with bamboo. Because of its neutral tone, any type of pool features, outdoor furniture and outside accessory blend seamlessly with bamboo as the backdrop. Many homeowners are even noticing that bamboo fencing often becomes the main focal point of their yard and an instant conversational piece whenever they have an alfresco gathering because of its unique look.
  2. Go green and replace your wood fence with bamboo fencing. Bamboo fencing has gained momentum not only in the outdoor décor market, but also in the eco-friendly and sustainability market. Bamboo is considered extremely green friendly because it is the fastest growing woody plant in the world and creates a minimal carbon footprint to harvest. It also regenerates quickly and naturally on its own in the wild and under human harvesting procedures. Because of its durability, it can be formed into a hard, lightweight and durable wood all at the same time.
  3. Bring bamboo inside, too! If you don’t have a large backyard, but still want to use bamboo as an interior décor element, bamboo can also be used indoors as a barrier, room divider, or window treatment to create a beautiful and authentic tropical theme to your interior living spaces. Bamboo features are a great addition to any bedroom, bathroom or living room  and you’ll soon find many creative ways to incorporate the grass into your home.
  4. Find accessories that mix well with bamboo. A popular accessory that complements bamboo is a tiki statue. These fun and mysterious images of warrior faces carved into wood instantly create an image of a luau in Hawaii, or a cold and refreshing drink on a sandy beach. Because they are hand carved, no two tikis ever look the same as another and they are a great addition to a beach-themed space. Tiki bars are another accessory that complements bamboo décor. Thatch roofing and bamboo paneling create an authentic look and the bar is a great place for entertaining during an outdoor party.

There are many ways to add bamboo into your living spaces, both outdoor and indoor. And now that this natural grass is becoming popular as an environmentally sustainable product, you’ll definitely be making trends in your own backyard.
