If you own and operate a professional carpet cleaning company and do not clean upholstery you should seriously consider adding it to your services. It is a great revenue source that will dramatically help your profits. If you think you might want to add it you should read this short article which will give you some tips to help make it easier.
The number one tip is to take an upholstery cleaning class. This is the single most important thing you can do because upholstery cleaning is much more complicated than carpet cleaning. You could easily find yourself buying an expensive couch if you do not watch yourself. An upholstery course is a cheap investment in your companies future so call your supplier and find out when the next available course will be.
The next tip is to not skimp on upholstery cleaning supplies. If you already have a portable or truck mounted carpet cleaning machine you could get started with a simple and cheap upholstery tool. This might be a bad idea for several reasons. First off you want a tool that is user friendly. You will be using it at times for hours on end and you want something that is ergonomic so that your hand will not fatigue. Trust me on this one. Also you will find that cheap tools have rougher edges that could snag furniture and do not have things like vac reliefs which can be helpful.
My last tip is to invest in a good tarp. I have seen many cleaners either not use one or use a blanket. Blankets can soak though and even bleed dye on the carpet while tarps do not. And do not even think of not using a tarp. It looks unprofessional and you could end up damaging some flooring.
