Water damage is not all about water damaging you property and possessions. Water damage leaves more types of certain after effects. One of these is the growth of mold (as it is commonly called) or fungi, which breed on moisture if not directly on water.
Generally when you try to get things back to normal after water damage, you try to dry out everything inside that has been damaged by water. Sometimes there remain some spaces that happen to attract your attention. These are the spaces where moisture remains and mold will start taking its hold in your premise.
How would you identify mold? Mold is a bit slippery like moss. Its color is orange or dark green. It looks like moss growth. Dried mold might even feel powdery. Mold has a strong smell. As time passes mold tends to grow and grow and starts affecting everything that is around it. The damage caused of mold is irreversible.
Mold generally grows on objects like wood, paper, fabric, etc. Therefore, when there is water damage the most likely place for the mold to grow is under the carpet especially in corners where the carpet could not be dried completely. You will find mold growing in boxes where you store your books, even if these have been exposed to heavy moisture like a fog and not been submerged in water.
Mold damages things by leaving a dirty mark on the objects. It leaves a greenish mark on the things that it has been growing on. You can wash it as much as you like but the mark will not go thus it results into wasting the object.
Mold also damages the environment inside the premises. As it dries the harmful bacteria float around the place affecting those staying inside these places. Mold grows everywhere, whether it is a new place or an old one. You need to identify areas where there is mold growth and take action immediately.
Mold is present on the wood surfaces, inside the lining or wallpapers, on outer windows of a place, in some corner of a building which is not being taken care of properly.
Mold is extremely common in old buildings with little maintenance. Mold also causes damage to the wooden structures therefore it is important that the mold be removed as fast as possible. Traces of mold once found should be studied to find whether there is any mold growth around the area.
Mold growth once started, spreads around the house finding several places to grow and damage. Therefore, to kill mold is the most effective way of removing this health and property hazard from your place. If enough attention is not to paid to mold damage, it can turn into a serious issue. This might make you require help of an expert which can clinically eliminate mold from the premises.
Water damage results into potential mold damage, therefore paying adequate attention to restoring water damage is required so that growth of mold is avoided.
