Water Fountain Place sells full size and tabletop indoor water fountains as well as outdoor garden fountains, solar fountains and custom fountains.
Okay, you’ve looked at a selection of indoor fountains, read water fountain articles to zero in on the fountain you want and are about to make the order, when you wonder: Where is my indoor fountain going to fit? Good question! It’s easy to let enthusiasm for such an attractive, novel piece of new décor get ahead of practical considerations. Before you get paralyzed by indecision, think about the following factors. These should help you better integrate an indoor fountain into your home’s interior design.
Size Matters – and So Does Shape
It isn’t enough to think about an indoor fountain in terms of just its height and weight. They key to making the right choice is the water fountain’s area and floor footprint. These are usually the same thing unless you’re going with a mounted wall water fountain. Once you know these things you’ll have a much better idea of how the fountain should fit in.
One great rule is to mentally expand the area of the fountain into a circular or square area slightly larger (6 inches in each direction is a good standard) than it really is, regardless of the fountain’s shape. Nobody wants to be squeezed up against a fountain, and good designs need a little breathing room to showcase the fountain’s beauty. If you don’t have the room, consider a tabletop fountain instead.
Once you have the footprint figured there are two ways to go about designing a space in harmony with your fountain:
Indoor Fountain First
If you have a large indoor fountain, consider starting with that as the center of your design. Pick a place for it first and set up everything else around it. You normally want any major furniture pieces situated so that guests can look at the fountain from a relaxed position, but not so that the fountain is right in their faces. For related reasons, try not to place a television so that guests must choose between having the TV or the fountain at their backs. Otherwise, they’ll be distracted no matter where they turn. Remember that an indoor fountain is an active design element. Sound and motion are fundamental parts of what it does.
Furnishings First
If you have a very large space to decorate or a more modest indoor fountain you can choose its placement based on your existing setup. You’ll only move a few things around, but many of the same rules apply as for a fountain-centered plan. Keep the fountain a comfortable distance and don’t make it compete with the TV. In addition, think of it as a way to complement the sites of existing houseplants or transitional areas in the pace, such as hallway entrances. One way or the other, the indoor fountain will add a little sparkle to your home.
