Why You Need Shower Head Water Filters

Are shower head water filters really necessary? What are the best shower filters? Here you'll find the answers to these questions and more.

More chemicals enter your body through your skin and by inhalation during a shower than when you drink the same water. According to the American Journal of Public Health, chlorine has been linked to certain types of cancer and as much as 2/3 of the harmful exposure was due to skin absorption and inhaling the vapors during a shower. Knowing this, you can see why shower head water filters are necessary, if you are concerned about your future and present health.

The best shower filters use a two stage system that reduces chlorine and other chemicals while enhancing the pH balance of the water. In the first stage, your tap water flows through a granular copper/zinc medium. During the second, it flows through the more common activated carbon filter.

The best shower filters use a high grade carbon derived from coconut shell, rather than charcoal. The carbon filter further reduces the chemicals that can vaporize and be inhaled with the steam while you are showering.

Shower head water filters initially become popular because of the cosmetic benefits to the hair and skin. In just a short period of time, usually a matter of days, your hair will feel softer. Your skin will feel softer and look younger. You will need less moisturizers and conditioners.

Chlorine has a harsh drying affect on the hair and skin. If you swim in a chlorinated swimming pool, you know how terrible your hair and skin feel afterwards. You run to the shower, right away.

But wait, if there are no shower head water filters in your home, then you are exposing yourself to even more chlorine. It has been noted that the chlorine content in some public drinking water systems is higher than what you find in a swimming pool, particularly during certain times of the year when the water treatment facilities are "cleaning the pipes".

During those times, you can actually see the yellow powder. If you allow a glass of unfiltered tap water to sit, you will see the yellow powder on the bottom of the glass. If you boil a pot of that unfiltered water, the amount you see will astound you.

The yellow powder is chlorine. It disinfects the water and kills just about anything that might be in the water. Local governments assure us that it is safe to humans, but anything that KILLS other living organisms can not be good for ANY living organism. The best shower filters will protect you and your family, even when the content is extremely high.

If you have a filter on your kitchen tap, the next logical step for your family's health is adding shower head water filters in the bathrooms. Once you try them, you will never want to bathe in unfiltered water again.
