ADT home alarm systems will give you the best chance in the fight against burglaries. Find out how an ADT home alarm system can put your worries to bed.
Like almost anything in life, home security is a game of adjustments. For every advance made in security techniques, there is eventually an adjustment made by burglars to work around it. Like any classic struggle, the principles remain the same. You want to use your home alarm system to keep burglars at bay. However, if you are living in another era when it comes to security measures, you may find yourself on the losing end of this contest. Studies have shown there is a certain level of consistency when it comes to burglary attempts. If you cover the big ones and mind the details simultaneously, you’ll probably find yourself well protected. Here are five burglar techniques you can combat effectively.
1. Secure the main entrances equally. While statistics say most burglars attempt entry through the front door of homes, an analyst would be able to read between the lines. In other words, while the unpracticed hand would try the front door, the expert would immediately go for the back door. It’s reverse psychology. With homeowners believing they should use all of their ammunition on the front door, the back door is vulnerable. Keep both strong enough to withstand basic attacks.
2. Treat your garage like you would your bedroom. While personal safety is certainly not an issue when it comes to securing your garage, letting security measures slip here is a bad idea. Criminals who have access to your car or tools can do plenty of damage, including using your own power tools to enter your main home. If you are accustomed to leaving house keys or information inside your car, remember to lock its doors and arm car alarms before leaving it for the night.
3. Remember that entry points are in the eye of the beholder. Many criminals will improvise if they can discern the presence of a home security system. That might include heading upstairs rather than going for the traditional points of entry. Make sure your home alarm system’s reach covers the upper floors as well. See where a burglar could access a second floor window and get glass break sensors and motion detectors to cover the area.
4. Back up glass break detectors with artfully placed motion sensors. Knowing that a glass sensor is installed, criminals might take the silent route, i.e. using a glass cutter to get through a window rather than smashing it. With many glass break sensors, this will not alert your home security system that there is an intruder. Combat this artful technique with a well-placed motion sensor. The combination of effects should do the job.
5. A burglar has to get close to get inside. Having good timing is the key to burglars making it inside your home. Don’t allow them to establish a presence before making a move. Strong motion sensor lighting can deter any approach, along with some choices in shrubbery which can make any burglar uncomfortable.
