Home security is an issue both day and night. With a good home alarm, you’ll be all set.
When it comes to home security at night, most of us are pretty well keened in on what is necessary to stay safe. We make sure to lock our doors, set our alarms, and turn on our motion sensor lights, all for the sake feeling safe and sound while we sleep and dream. We take time to take care while catching some much-needed zzz´s, and rightly so – the idea nighttime burglars and intruders is a frightening one.
But night isn’t the only time at which your home is at risk. And while some thieves may be a bit more gutsy and confident in the dark, the same will not be true for all. In fact, the security lapses that take place during the daytime leave us at a high risk for intrusion and attack.
Take a look at some of the common mistakes you just might make when it comes to home security during the day, and catch a few tips about what you can do to shape up.
Leaving doors and windows open and unlocked
At night, you probably wouldn’t imagine leaving your windows wide open or your back door unlocked. But during the day, the story can change. On especially hot days, it can be tempting to leave doors and windows open to let in a breeze. And this is okay – if you have screens closed and locked. This is extremely important in the case that you are home alone, when an intruder could slip in without you ever noticing and attack. Go ahead and invest in some screens for your doors and windows – keeping intruders and insects out.
Failing to set home alarm systems
You probably spent a whole lot of money on that fancy alarm system you installed last spring. Therefore, why not take advantage and get some real use out of it? If you’re going to be going in and out of your house (doing yard work, playing with the kids, etc.), you should take the extra precaution of setting your alarm. As quick and easy as pressing a few buttons, you will increase your own safety as well as that of your family. Make sure your kids are careful to take this precaution as well.
Letting kids stay home alone
It can be great when you can finally let your kids stay home alone without a babysitter, but be careful not to rush into things. Regardless of how responsible your child may seem at a young age, he or she may not be prepared for all that staying at home alone means. Before you leave your little guy behind, think twice. And when you make the decision to do so, make sure to have a long talk about home security so that he knows what to do in the case of an emergency. At first, stay close and make trips short, lengthening distances and time later on.
Home security is an issue both day and night, so make sure to take care all the time.
