Home Security Options (for the Novice) Explained

Unless you live in a fortress, home security should be one of your paramount concerns in life.  How do you ensure that you have the utmost in home security? What are your options?  If you are a new homeowner or simply have never considered the question of home security previously, you likely have quite a few questions surrounding the subject.  What is the best method for your needs?  Should you opt for a DIY system or should you invest in a professional system?  Here, you'll find the information you need to make the right decision.

DIY or Professional

The question of DIY or professional systems usually comes about because of cost.  However, some consumers may believe that DIY systems are easier to expand or simpler to install.  In a sense, this is partially true.  Anyone can install a DIY system on their own and, because they are fully wireless, they can be configured in any way that you want.  However, this might not be the benefit that you believe it to be.  For instance, simply because you can install the system on your own does not actually mean you will have any benefits.  Most professional systems come with free professional installation – thereby negating that thought.

In addition, most professional systems make use of hybrid wired/wireless technology.  This means they are just as easy to expand and configure as their low-end brethren.

Add-On Options

Once you make the choice for a professional home security system, you will be glad that you did.  This opens up entire new worlds in the form of add-on options for your security benefits.  You won't find many of these with DIY systems.  What options will you have?  First, you can opt for fire and smoke protection.  You can also choose to have carbon monoxide sensors installed in your home.  Freeze and flood sensors also provide dramatic benefits.

Finally, you will find that other add-ons, such as remote controls and wearable panic buttons provide you with greater convenience, as well as greater security.  These options can all increase the health and security of you and your family, helping you lead a happier, healthier life.

Monitoring

Obviously, DIY systems are not monitored.  This means they are essentially, nothing more than loud alarms.  While the noise might be enough to frighten away an intruder, what if it isn't?  A monitored home security system takes that worry away.  Whether the intruder leaves or not, the monitoring center will call to determine your situation. If you do not respond, the center will alert the authorities (police, fire and rescue personnel) and dispatch them to your home.

As you can see, this provides enormous benefits for your safety and security.  Having live monitoring is one of the best aspects of purchasing a professional home security system and can help ensure that you remain safe and sound no matter what.  Of course, you are free to try DIY solutions, but when they fail to protect you, remember that professional systems are available.
