Its no secret that crime statistics are on the rise and that particularly holds true for property crimes such as burglary. If you currently don't have a home security system in your home then you are just taking your chances, because homes and businesses that lack a security system are the first choice of thieves that are on the hunt for an easy target.

The good news is that as the level of technology in home security systems has increased the overall cost for a state of the art system has at the same time decreased, when adjusted for inflation. No longer is a homes security system totaly reliant on trip switches that are mounted on doors and windows for burglary protection, because newer state of the art sensiors have been developed that detect motion and body heat.

With this new technology in security systems it is now possible to extend the security perimeter outside of the home to thirty-five feet. This means that if a prowler even approaches your home the alarm will be tripped before they have a chance to reach the dwelling. Because they are so finely calibrated, they can easily differentiate between animals such as dogs and cats, so there is never any false alarms.

Maybe you have seen in the movies how alarm systems get defeated by cutting wires but this is no longer the case, because new state of the art alarm systems operate with wireless technology that eliminates the need for wires to be strung around a house. Even the trip mechanisms on windows and doors are wireless and the batteries in the sensors will last up to three years between replacements. Theres no need to run around from unit to unit checking batteries either, because the individual mechanisms will send a message to the control panel when they need to be replaced.

The control panel is the computer or brain of the modern home security system and will do all of the thinking for you. In fact with new voice recognition technology it is even possible to have an alarm system installed in your home that takes voice commands. In fact you can now call your alarm systems control panel if you are out of town to check on your home and see if everyone is home OK.

The list of things that a security system will do now just goes on and on and there is no need to worry if the power is turned off because they all come with a battery powered back-up system that can run the homes security system for weeks if need be. Other options include heat sensors for fire detection that signal the system to wake everyone up as it simultaneously calls the emergency personel.

Carbon monoxide sensors that also tell the system to sound the alarm as it calls for help and even sensors that can let you know if cold temperatures are risking your pipes being ruptured. The fact is that if you don't have ADT decals on your windows and their sign in your yard you are just taking your chances now.
