Personal safety is the most important thing for everyone. We should pay attention to personal safety all the time. The best way to keep yourself and your loved ones safe is to be aware of your surroundings and avoid putting yourself in situations that could be potentially dangerous. This article will talk about how to stay safe when you park your car. The following checklist for parking safety contains a list of things worth keeping in mind when walking to your car in public parking areas:
1. Try to park your car in the park lot with surveillance equipment.
2. Remove valuables. Don't be a highly visible target. Hide or remove your valuables when leaving your car. Lock all doors and windows once you leave the car or get inside.
3. Park close to your destination, especially if it's going to be dark when you return, even if it means waiting for a space to become free. Identify entrances and exits. Before walking far from your car, make sure to locate all entrances and exits to the garage or lot. Make it a point to do so as you enter the parking area.
4. At night, try to park under a street light. Always take the most brightly lit path to and from your car.
5. Leave your engine running until you've gathered everything and you're ready to get out of the car. Check your surroundings to make sure they look safe before you get out of the car.
6. If you're comfortable backing into parking spaces, it's a good way to park, because it means you can leave quickly if the situation becomes dangerous.
7. When you're walking back to your car, keep your keys in hand, so you can get into the car quickly or use them as a weapon if needed.
8. Avoid lingering. When you close the door to your vehicle after parking, be prepared to set out right away for your destination. On the return trip, avoid fumbling for keys or pass codes and plan to get into the vehicle and make a speedy exit. Never answer a cell phone call on the way to your car
9. After you open the car door, check the front and back seats to make sure no one is hiding inside.
10. If someone suspicious approaches you, honk your horn and flash the lights to draw attention.
11. Trust your instincts. If your sixth instinct suggests danger when you are parking or coming back to your car, leave the area until you're sure it is secure.
