Sentry Safe Review – X055 Security Safe

Not everyone who wants to protect a few small valuables is looking for an expensive security vault that can cost thousands of dollars.  Sometimes we just need a safe place to keep important items like an iPod, cash, passports, or jewelry.  If you’re looking for a basic safe to protect these types of small valuables, you found it with the Sentry X055.  With a price tag of under $75, the X055 offers some nice features including a carpeted interior, pry-resistant construction and a clever electronic lock.  Most introductory safes we reviewed around this price range generally came with a flimsy combination lock, but not with the X055. The X055 also offers solid steel construction and bolt down capabilities that allow you to secure this small safe so that no one can just easily pick it up and walk away with the safe.  For added protection, the Sentry X055 offers live locking bolts which help safeguard your important valuables.

The Sentry X055 offers an electronic lock with an override key which is extremely easy to operate.  All you need to do is install 4 batteries (which aren’t included, so make sure you order these in advance so you can program it as soon as you open it).  Once you install the 4 AA batteries, you can easily program a 2 to 8 digit password. A series of LED lights that flash red, yellow, and green will guide you throughout the process.   We were able to program our custom password in less than 3 minutes after installing the batteries.  The X055 is simply that easy to use.  

As a backup the Sentry Safe X055 also comes with 2 override keys that allow you to access the safe in the event the batteries discharge, or you forget your password.

The X055 is constructed of solid steel and measures 8.5 x 13.6 x 8.6 inches (HxWxD) inside to deliver a capacity of 0.5 cubic feet. Its exterior dimensions measure 8.7 x 13.8 x 10.6 inches and the Sentry X055 has a shipping weight of just around 19 lbs.  The X055 also comes with a 1 year limited warranty which is provided and serviced by the manufacturer – Sentry Safe.

Although the X055 may not offer the finest of security protection from fire and theft, we couldn’t be more pleased with this small safe given that it affordable for almost anyone.
