The Need for a Home Security System is Greater in Hard Economic Times

With the economy currently in shambles, security is a thing that is on the minds of a lot of people. Stores have quietly upgraded their security systems to prevent shoplifting and robbery as desperate people resort to robbery and burglary during troubled times. As commercial enterprises have recognized the need for beefed up security, homeowners should also consider having a home security system installed to protect their home from burglary or robbery. In times like these, your home may be more vulnerable to robbery and home invasions.

It is a proven fact that a burglary occurs in this country once every 14 seconds according to the FBI. It is also a fact that a home without a home security system is 2 to 3 times more likely to be broken into than a home with one. In times like these with criminals getting desperate, it is a wise investment to get a fully monitored home security system professionally installed in your home.

While many people think that burglaries take place at night, 63% of the residential burglaries that took place in 2007 occurred during the daytime. This is when people are most often away at work or school and the house is empty, which is what criminals prefer. Criminals often case out neighborhoods for weeks on end looking for homes that are easy marks. They look for patterns of when people leave in the morning and return in the afternoon or evening. They may try to observe through visible windows what sorts of valuables are available in the home. They will also check to see what kind of security is in place in the home. If the home has signage that says the home is protected 24 hours by a monitored home security system, chances are the criminals will move on to an easier target.

With the economy in rough shape, many people may be tempted not to invest in a home security system. That would be a mistake as crime statistics point to an uptick in criminal home invasions that are more brazen than a daytime robbery when no one is home. In these home invasions, doors are kicked down and people are threatened in their home. Victims are often tied up and traumatized by desperate criminals who don’t care what the stakes are if they can make a score that will be sizable. If you had a monitored home security system in place, and if the high decibel alarm did not deter the criminals, the monitors will notify police immediately, who will show up in time to apprehend the criminals before they have the chance to do further damage or make off with your valuable property.

Investing in a home security system during a tough economy may be the wisest move you can make. With a monitored home security system, help can be dispatched to your home immediately in the event of a robbery or home invasion. A home security system also serves as a powerful deterrent from crime ever occurring, because criminals are much less likely to break into a home with a monitored home security system.
