With home security on more and more peoples minds these days, many of them are choosing to have a home security system installed in their home to protect their families and themselves. One thing that you should know if you are one of these people considering a home security system, is that they have gone through many changes over the past few decades.
Not only are they far more effective at protecting your home or business from break-ins but they now can also protect you and your family from dangers such as fire and carbon monoxide gas that may be leaking into your home or business from the gas heating system. While many people are only recently becoming aware of the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning, it has been killing people for decades and has gained a well earned reputation as a “silent killer” in the home.
Because carbon monoxide has no smell or color, it is virtually undetectable without a security system in place with sensors that can detect it and once someone is effected by it, they simply fall asleep and never wake up again. It is such an effective poison gas that whole families have died from it in mere hours and they never even had a clue that their demise was imminent.
Standard smoke detectors have been the way that most people protect their families from fire hazards while they sleep at night but they have their weak points that have led to many deaths and countless homes being needlessly destroyed. To start with, their batteries can run dead and they then of course become ineffective. Also, they can be overly sensitive to smoke particularly in a kitchen area where they are needed most and so people will often remove the batteries.
Thirdly they don't call for emergency help, because all that they do is sound the alarm and while you may think that you can call if there is a fire, the truth is that when a fire actually strikes in the night a great many people report that they barely had the time to get themselves and their loved ones out alive.
To start with, the fire detection end of a modern security system is either operated of a hard wire that is directly connected to a power source or if it is wireless it will automatically signal the control panel if the batteries should run low. Secondly, they don't function by detecting smoke, so they can be easily located in a kitchen where they are needed most, because they function by detecting heat that is generated by a fire.
These newer up to date fire detectors that come with an up to date security system don't sound off like a standard smoke detector but rather they send a signal to the control panel that sounds the alarm on the home. Also, the control panel on your security system sends a message to the ADT home security monitoring station where trained person ell immediately notify the fire department.
