Your Home Security – DIY or Professional

Providing protection for your home and family is of the utmost importance.  Most homeowners will agree that it is more dangerous today than ever before.  As such, it is vital that you choose the right home security system for your home.  How do you choose?  Should you opt for a DIY system, or should you shell out cash for a professional system?  The choice can seem quite difficult; however, here you will find the facts and details you need to make the right decision and ensure you and your family are protected.

DIY Systems – DIY (Do-It-Yourself) systems offer tremendous benefits for the homeowner.  These systems are often very affordable and they can be installed by the average person, with little or no technical know-how.  In addition, they can be expanded to provide coverage to additional areas of the home, or they can be reduced in scope, if your protection needs change with time.

However, DIY systems might not be the best solution for everyone.  While these do provide protection in the form of an audible alarm (and sometimes flashing lights), these systems have one serious flaw – they are not monitored.  This means that if an intruder were to break into your home and was not deterred by the sound of the alarm, you are still responsible for alerting the police to your predicament.

Another flaw with DIY home security systems is the fact that they are entirely wireless.  It is important to distinguish between wireless and hybrid wired/wireless systems.  Totally wireless systems are infinitely configurable, but are not as reliable as a hybrid system.  A hybrid system provides you with wired reliability in the control panel and the flexibility you need with wireless peripherals, such as motion sensors, carbon monoxide sensors and more.  Because the control panel is hardwired into your home, you can ensure that it operates correctly, all the time.

Professional Systems – Professional home security systems might seem to be more expensive than a DIY solution, but the reverse is actually true.  In many instances, you'll find that these systems are available with no installation charge and even free equipment at times.  This means you only have to pay for monitoring.  The monitoring service is the most essential part of the equation.

In addition, most professional systems are hybrid systems, giving you reliability and flexibility in your home.  Beyond this, professional systems can be configured with additional sensors at little cost, such as fire/smoke detectors, flood sensors, carbon monoxide sensors, panic buttons and other additions that increase your protection dramatically.

Lastly, a professional security system offers you professional installation.  If you install your own security system, there is no guarantee that it will work properly.  However, with professional installation, you can rest assured that your system is online and operating in your family's defense at all times.

Making the right decision in a home security system is essential to your health and happiness.  Take the time to determine the best course for your family.

Fire Alarm Monitoring Can Save Up Lives

By: Jeremy S. Abrahamson | 26/12/2009
Most homes have a smoke detector that lets them know when a fire has broken out. These smoke detectors do just that; they detect smoke. That means that a smoking oven could even set them off. Not only that, but if you have a huge home or office building, there's no way that a smoke alarm will be sufficient. That's why many homes and businesses are connecting fire alarms that offer fire alarm monitoring. With fire alarm monitoring, you always have someone keeping an eye on your house or office.
