Homeschooling - Hiring Tutors?

Homeschooling is a very positive educational decision; however, some parents are not equipped to educate others. While they want to give their child the best possible education that can not be acquired in public school, homeschooling can be somewhat daunting. Private school, on the other hand, is often not an option due to economic restrictions and may even be rather sub standard as far as educational quality is concerned. Thus, homeschooling is the best option a viable solution is to hire a tutor.

When hiring a tutor, you first need to know what type of homeschooling approach you wish to take for your child. There are many different types of curriculum and you should evaluate your child's learning style and the value that you wish to instill. This means that you will need to research the type of tutor and determine their availability. It is also integral to match the tutor to the child for an optimal educational experience. It is crucial to the long term success of homeschooling.

One popular homeschooling method, the Montessori Method, is a hands on approach to learning. This type of learning focuses more on observing the child than on having the child observe the instructor. This educational movement was advocated by Maria Montessori as well as other innovative educators means locating a tutor that is open to a student led method of learning. One who is experienced with the Montessori Method is particularly desirable. Because this is a popular educational method, that should not be too difficult.

At the other end of the learning spectrum is the Classical method. While more structured in its approach, the Classical method is modeled after monastic education and is quite popular. The students are presented with a set of rigorous challenges that stretch their minds. These tutors are highly sought after because they are very educated and have keen minds. They are capable of providing a wealth of resources to students.

The internet has literally changed the educational landscape in many ways, including tutoring. Before the internet, finding a tutor involved manual researching and tedious reference checks. It was usually trial and error as far as finding one that was affordable, but now it is as simple as running a search and selecting your desired criteria. Background checks, references and other information can be checked online, usually in far less time than traditional methods. Monitoring the tutor's results is also simplified with software that is geared toward homeschooling families

Some tutors are strictly online and this method can work well in certain homeschooling situations. Most homeschool students are very motivated and truly want to learn. They have an insatiable hunger for knowledge and all they need is a little guidance, motivation and resources, all of which a good tutor can offer them. With email, chat programs, interactive video software and other contemporary tools, all the assistance that a student needs can usually be given completely online. This expands the pool of tutors who are available to parents to a very wide area.

The other thing that parents much consider is the cost of the tutoring.

Many parents are concerned about whether they can afford a tutor, particularly when they wish to homeschool their child. However, once all the actual costs are calculated and assed, parents usually realize that hiring a tutor is actually quite cost effective.

The internet has played a large part in driving down the cost of tutoring in many cases. Parents can offset the costs by developing a home based business or working online and making money to pay for their child's tutor. However it is all well worth the cost; it is having a hand in developing your child's mind.
