How Can Online Tutoring Benefit Learning Through the Summer Months?

Online tutoring over the summer has grown in popularity and for good reason. Because all children are different, the specific benefits to each child may vary. There are many good reasons to utilize online summer learning programs . The following are common ways in which online tutoring can benefit learning through the summer months.

Prevent Loss of Learning Over the Summer

A common occurrence in children is a loss of learning over the summer. Online tutoring can be beneficial in helping to prevent this occurrence. When a student does not get enough practice in learned skills, that is when a learning loss can occur. This is sometimes referred to as "summer brain drain." When a child learns through online summer programs, the brain is being exercised, which helps to  prevent loss of learning. This is just one way in which online tutoring can benefit learning through the summer months.

Review Critical Skills

Sometimes there are facts or skills that a child did not quite master during the school year for whatever reason. Review of those critical skills is essential before a child can fully comprehend the next grade level. Math is one subject where the knowledge of each skill is critical before moving onto the next. For instance, in pre-algebra and algebra, a student needs to understand multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, fractions, and more. Without full understanding of those skills, it will become increasingly difficult to solve math problems. With the use of a summer math program, those critical skills can be reviewed.

Prepare for the Next Grade Level

Sometimes when a child enters the next grade level, lessons can become confusing. Online tutoring can benefit learning through the summer months by helping prepare a child for this transition. Parents should have an active role in this preparation, but tutoring can play a role as well. When a child has extra time to learn and practice math skills that will be gone over in the next grade level, that child can feel more confident in the ability to succeed in school. Not only can this lead to increased confidence, but the practice and head start on these lessons can make it easier for a child to stay on track in school. Preparing ahead can help prevent a child from getting behind. Having the confidence and skills to stay on track in school can help avoid stress and complications for children and parents later down the road.

Advance in Studies

If a child is already on track, that does not mean he or she can't benefit from online tutoring as well. This is a great opportunity for a child to advance further in studies. There is no such thing as too much knowledge. Mastering and advancing ahead in studies can not only give a child great self-confidence, but can also lead to success in school and in life. Online summer education, is great for this type of advancement because there is flexibility in learning. This allows the child to enjoy the summer, but also ensures time for learning.
