What Is Different About Homeschooling For High School

Home schooling is very different from a regular high school in many ways. One of the main differences is that the teenager is educated away from the conventional environment of a high school. This may be a good thing or a bad thing as per the situation. Listed below are some of the differentiating points.

One on one teaching

Homeschooling is a one on one teaching method. Here the complete focus of the educator, parent, or tutor is the student. The student's mind is stimulated much more than in normal high school situation as he is encouraged to seek answers for himself.

Complete control over the curriculum

Parents and students control everything that is taught. They can decide the courses based on their values and morals, include religious beliefs, and so on. This system is extremely beneficial for families who have strong religious beliefs.

Head Start on College

Many teens include college courses in their home school curriculum. They can design their program as per the requirement of the career they want to take up. This gives them an edge over other students studding in high school.

Limited Peer Pressure

Removed from the-constant peer pressure in schools, most homeschooled teens are well behaved and well mannered. They grow up respecting their parents. Students can be themselves without worrying about their peers. They get the opportunity to spread their wings and explore their creativity. .

Customized curriculum

Homeschoolers need not be limited to curriculum at a set grade level. They can determine the courses that match their skills and abilities. Students finish the course in the time frame that suits their learning standards. They may finish senior high school level English in junior year itself while continuing junior level moths in senior year. Also, your child has the freedom to pursue his interests in other areas of studies and take credit for the same.

Flexibility

The demands of a working family require that study schedules for children remain flexible. Several kids are more involved in activities like sports, dance, or acting. In these cases, a flexible study program suits them best. The greatest advantage about homeschooling is that it allows families to remain just that, a family, and at the same time meet all the demands of daily life, individually.

Tackling problems as a family

Sometimes a situation may arise where the family may need all the support from within itself. The reasons can be anything ranging from drug abuse, to slipping grades to a family tragedy. Research has shown that parents can prevent a teenager from abandoning studies completely by home schooling him. It is a great time to bond as a family, build confidence, and instill character.

To sum up, the advantages of homeschooling seem to outweigh the disadvantages. The flexibility, instilling of morals and values, and most of all quality time with the family are enough to raise a green monster in anybody. How you handle the system is entirely up to you. You have various options, so go ahead and decide on what suits you best.
