San Cristobal UK is a Tailor-Made Cuba holiday specialist and has a vast experience in organizing holidays to Cuba. This is one of a series of articles devoted to promote the Cuban Culture and to give information on what to do and see in your Holidays to Cuba.
A few days after the end of the year 2000 the tourist company Habaguanex S.A. opened the Palacio de San Miguel Hotel, a newly proposal for culture and intimacy lovers.
A building of eclectic style is located in a very appropriate space (Cuba St. and the corner of Peña Pobre, across the Havana’s seawall), where you will be able to see a pleasant city view from, with handicraft artisans, colonial fortresses and the sea.
That is why, its management is convinced about the appeal of the facility, a truly Cuban feast for the senses. With an incomparable beauty as to the detailed work of carpentry and iron forge, or simply a great cleanliness of the rooms and halls.
The building was acquired in 1916 through an auction by Antonio San Miguel y Segala, born in Spain and illustrious Cuban citizen dedicated to journalism and letters, who made his place a centre for intellectual gatherings, as it is intended the hotel currently to be.
San Miguel was the director of the La Lucha newspaper and he was friend of patriots such as the General Antonio Maceo, known in the revolutionary wars against the Spanish crown as the Titán de Bronce.
This Cuban lodging features 10 rooms perfectly equipped with air conditioning systems, private bathroom, satellite TV and safe, and services such as fax, photocopy and typing, babysitting, luggage locking and parking lot.
As to gastronomy, it counts on a breakfast room and a lobby bar, just because there are plenty of restaurants in the surroundings, also run by Habaguanex S.A. tourist company, dedicated to this branch in the old area of the city, declared by UNESCO World Heritage.
It may be that the best of the hotel is the lookout-terrace San Carlos with an excellent view to the ancient portion of Havana and the bay that tend to be shelter for intellectuals when visiting this region.
With only 10 members of the staff, including the management, the hotel is added to the efforts of giving this part of Cuba elite lodgings, with certain bohemian inspiration demanded by many visitors.
A façade of stones highlights in absolute harmony with ironwork, the white clay in the ceiling and marble plating in baseboards, floors and banisters, a work that took two years in order to function and rescue original tainted glass showcased in the place.
The guests are convinced of the relation between the opportunities of the place and the price is very attractive, along with the comforts and the cultural plan offered.
As a curiosity, each room and hotel hall feature original photographs of that ancient time period, from the collection of San Miguel, and a gathering place could be attractive for those who come to this place.
Since the very moment somebody arrives to the hotel, there is a sensation of arts and culture, with its marble stairs and the nice ways of the staff who carry inside the spirit of the hotel. A truly Cuban feast for the senses.
