For true elegance and refinement, there is nowhere better than the British Isles which is why they have been attracting tourists from far and wide for years. The sense of history in some of England's oldest towns is magical, and can lead to many a wonderful afternoon just wandering about tiny lanes and alleys, stumbling across architecture going back hundreds of years.
This sense of elegance extends to the luxury hotels in England - so enjoy a tour of the fair isles staying in one of the many sumptuous hotels fit for a king, along the way.
England - History, Shakespeare, Fish & Chips And Luxury Hotels
If you are new to England, and looking for a place seeped in history and refinement, you should consider making your first stop the city of Bath. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1987, Bath is famous for it's marvellously preserved Roman remains and baths (the most well-preserved in the world, beating even Rome), as it was built on England's only natural hot spring.
Set in beautiful Somerset countryside and less than two hours from London, you can explore this compact city on foot taking in the 18th century architecture - imagine the ladies and gentlemen from the 1800's who visited Bath to 'take the cure' and enjoy a rest from the capital. You can also enjoy some modern-day comfort at one of the luxury hotels in this corner of England, in fact it may be a struggle to tear yourself away.
You needn't go far to discover the spa town of Cheltenham - only 100 miles from London, and an ideal base to explore the Cotswolds and the home town of William Shakespare, Stratford upon Avon. Cheltenham is a spa town and in 1788 King George 111 visited to sample it's waters, putting it on the map and turning it into the fashionable resort it is today. Containing beautiful countryside, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds are a magnificent place to visit in the middle of summer to view the bountiful gardens - the area also has some of the most elegant and luxurious hotels in England.
For some sea air, head south to Devon and Cornwall, a very diverse region. Also a World Heritage Site - designated in 2006 - Devon and Cornwall has over 350 miles of wondrous coastline to explore, along with charming fishing villages and sophisticated resort towns. If you are looking for a more active holiday, this area of the country has over 400 beaches containing some famous stretches of surfs.
Slow Down The Pace Of Life
Yes, it's great to go trekking in India or exploring the underwater world off the coast of Thailand, but there's something just utterly charming about the sleepy villages of England. That's not to say you will be forced to stay at a leaky B & B, enduring sloppy eggs and bacon and scratchy sheets - the luxury hotels in England will offer a charm and elegance seldom found elsewhere.
