Finding Hotels in Dundee

Dundee is better known as the city of discovery and it is situated on the east coast of Scotland, above Fife.  The city was best known for producing Jam, Jute and Journalism in the past but has now developed into a technological centre.

The main attractions in the city centre are the R.S.S Discovery and the nearby Glamis castle.  The Discovery is permanently docked in the River Tay, a few minutes walk from the railway station.  You can climb aboard and learn about the history of the ship and its captain.

Glamis castle is only a few miles outside the city and it is one of the best preserved castles in Scotland.  Inside you can tour selected rooms and learn about the castle history as well as various period specific information.

The city is also well known for its vibrant nightlife and indeed there is no shortage of bars and nightclubs in the city centre.  The main area for bars is to the west of the city on Perth Road.  There you will find popular bars such as the Social and Drouthey Neebours.

The main nightclub in Dundee is Fat Sams, this is about a 10 minute walk from the main high street in Dundee.  There are usually various events throughout the week and cheap drink promotions on a Wednesday, which is student night throughout the city.

When visiting Dundee it is important to get the right accommodation, this is a great place to tour central Scotland from.  Although Dundee is a city, tourism is a relatively new industry and the accommodation sector is still catching up with demand.

There are two four star hotels in Dundee, located in the city centre, these are the Apex City Quay and the Hilton Dundee.  Both hotels are actually next to each other, situated just over the tay bridge looking out over the River Tay.

The Apex is right next door to the City Quay shopping complex which has only been recently built and house shops such as T.K Maxx.  This hotel has 152 en-suite bedrooms and a 2 AA Rosette restaurant.

The Hilton looks over the River Tay across to the Kingdom of Fife and there are some guestrooms with river views.  The hotel restaurant also offers an excellent view of the River as well as good quality food.

Both these hotels have a great location in the heart of the city centre, the shopping area and main attractions of Dundee are only a short walk away.  The railway station and bus station are less than a 5 minute walk from each hotel

If you are looking for a cheaper hotel in Dundee then the newly developed Travelodge Central is ideal.  The accommodation is basic but good value for money and it has a very central location.  It is close to several nightclubs and only a five minute walk from the Overgate shopping centre.

There are guest houses and hostels available if you are on a really tight budget, the cheapest accommodation available is the Dundee Backpackers.  This hostel offers accommodation on the main high street of Dundee for only £13 per person.
