Hotels And Recession – How Do You Over Come The Situation?

Singapore, Mexico and nearing places are the worst hit travel destinations due to the swine flue fears. Even after reports of no trace of swine flue is available, there is still fear. It has been reported that there is no swine flu found in Washington State, but authorities are keeping a close watch for any possible entries of a traveller carrying the disease causing virus. Swine flu virus was suspected to have killed at least 149 individuals in Mexico, the epicenter of the outbreak. People still fear to travel to Mexico. The hotel industry was the worst hit along with the travel industry. Disease combined with economic down fall both have been the main culprits.

IT firms which are renowned for their recreational activities such as parties, stay at resorts and weekly night out in hotels, pubs have seen a drop. This had contributed to major business in the past. During week ends most of the club resorts and restaurants would be jam packed with IT and youth crowd. Hotels have now worn a sad and deserted face. No IT crowd to adorn the place. Companies have resorted to ways of cutting down their operational cost. British tourists have preferred to stay in UK instead of going on an expensive holiday abroad to the traditional hotspots.

The only way to resurrect from such a crisis is to provide offers which serves as incentives in the quietest months for a hotel. You must offer them best rates on your hotel website as travelers compare packages and rates from all sources – travel websites, travel agents and hotel website. Promote your web sites, by optimizing them in Search engines. This will have more travellers clicking on your hotel links and finding a better rate they will definitely book your hotel rooms.

Difficult trading conditions have worsened the situation for them. Increase the room rates with an onset of vacation season. Cover up your losses during on-season. Currently, with Diwali in India there are more travellers on a vacation. It is time to make money again, increase your room rents and other costs. People are ready to spend during festive season and holidaying. Give them what they want, organize special events to allure the travelers with their family. It is good to think of events where in the whole family can participate. Encash the opportunity as more and more families will be looking out for a package tour. Have tie –ups with travel agencies so that travellers are brought in to your hotels at ease. Good luck, in improving your marketing skills!
