Newcastle is a great city to visit, it offers so much to do, see and experience that you could be tempted to not venture out. But this would be a mistake.
Even though there are plenty of hotels in Newcastle and reasons to stay there, it does not mean you should remain routed in the city centre. A stone’s throw away from the City centre is Jesmond and famous Jesmond Dene. Jesmond Dene offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city, with its deep valley splitting Jesmond from Heaton it’s a great place to take a picnic. Back in Jesmond along Osbourne road a new stylish and funky drinking experience is on offer to relax and chill.
The great thing about Newcastle is its transport links, Jesmond is a little more than 10 minutes from the city via the metro system. A System that can also take you away to the seaside delights of Whitley bay and Tynemouth. Two seas side towns that offer two very different experiences.
Whitley bay with its vibrant night life and Spanish city amusement park is great for Adults and kids alike, where as Tynemouth offers a more relaxing Seaside experience.
However the sea front is fantastic, with wide stretches of beach that if walked along will take you to the St Marys lighthouse museum. You can climb the 137 steps of the lighthouse and see some spectacular views of the North east coast line.
Newcastle offers its visitors a weekend getaway to remember, with a great city centre and a seaside getaway all wrapped up in one. My advice is do not just stay in the centre, take a ride on the metro system!

By: Kris Stains | 03/12/2007 | Art & EntertainmentThe age old question of what came first; well in this case Hairspray the Musical theatre show came first, not Hairspray the movie. Hairspray has been a hit Broadway show for years and following its recent adaption into a movie, it has now arrived in the West End.
