Tourists of every kind will enjoy Prague

Westerners may be surprised to learn that Prague is swiftly becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in Central Europe. But if they’d take a closer look at the Czech Republic’s capital city, they’d understand why: There’s something in the Golden City to appeal to every Prague tourist.

Start with the history. Prague is home to a wide variety of meticulously cared for historic buildings. The architecture styles range widely, from the Baroque to the Neo-Renaissance, offering a constant visual treat for tourists. And these ancient buildings can pop up anywhere from the middle of a crowded shopping district to the peaceful banks of a lazily winding river.

It’s little wonder, then, that many visitors consider Prague to be the most beautiful of all Central Europe’s capital cities. This burgeoning metropolis is so popular, that it’s been dubbed the Golden City.

History is on display here every day and seemingly around every corner. Ancient castles, ornate churches, quaint homes and centuries-old shrines reward the Prague tourist who hunts them done. Many of these buildings are breathtaking in their beauty. Others are powerful and stately. But they are all unforgettable.

Of course, historic buildings are just one facet of this remarkable city. The Prague tourist should also rub elbows with the locals. To not do this is to not truly experience Prague. The natives here are laid-back, witty and always eager to share a drink or a hearty meal. Prague attracts people from all over the world, and has become a preferred destination for artists, show-biz types and those seeking a Bohemian lifestyle.

There’s a bustling nightlife scene here, and countless fine-dining restaurants. The Prague tourist who wants to experience the world’s finest beers won’t be disappointed. Neither will the visitor who prefers exotic cocktails or fine wines.

The nightlife doesn’t end with the bars, though. For the Prague tourist interested in theater and dance, there are several internationally acclaimed theaters, ballet companies and opera stages. Those looking for something a bit less structured can stroll along the Charles Bridge. Crews of buskers – street musicians – perform here daily, all in the hope of a tip or two from passersby.

Certain Prague attractions cannot be missed. There is St. Nicholas’s Church, for instance. The Jesuit Order commissioned this church during the first few years of the 18th Century. The building itself is a prime example of Prague baroque architecture. Every Prague tourist will want to see the large statue of St. Cyril, pictured in the act of stabbing the devil with a pastoral staff.

Another top attraction for any Prague tourist is Old Town Square. This busy shopping and entertainment center is home to Prague’s famed Astronomical Clock, which features amazingly detailed figures of death, the 12 Apostles, Vanity and the Miser each hour. It’s a marvelously whimsical show.

Every Prague tourist should find plenty to do in this historic capital city. It takes just a bit of research to plan a busy and unforgettable trip to this jewel of Central Europe.
