Since 2001 we are experiencing the actual adverse effects of recession and that’s how we became familiar with the word recession. As we all know global markets are going through a tough stage. You wont be able to spend a single day without hearing about recession. It might be a bad time for developing companies but could be good time if company allows their executives and general staffs to undergo fresh courses in how to make business during a recession period.
There are few things to be kept in mind during tough economic times. Some have to do with common sense, which is always in scarcity during such economic crisis. Others have to involve themselves in doing things that usually slips our minds and things we simply forget about until they come up again.
Understand Customers state of mind before marketing for any product.
Consumers are expected to be the first one to get effected by every economic slowdown or recession. They are the first one to admit and confirm the presence of recession, thereafter comes the role of any government economist to acknowledge that there is a problem.
Due to recession we see rise in energy and food prices but this not the case with salary. This rise in energy and food prices shows combined effect on the household budget. Therefore, customers are going to spend less as they have less to spend. You should be aware of this fact while doing your marketing, and planning accordingly will surely earn your share of their spendable income.
Recognize your Strengths and try to draw advantage from it.
If you are running a small business with a products list ranging from 1-5, now is not a time to introduce new, higher priced product. Keep that for when your customers have more spendable income and can afford to pay more. Your aim during recession period should be your survival in the market. Just go through the list of items you are marketing. Find the high profit items on your list and feature them in your advertising. Also know what your most popular items are and help people to know that you have them.
Should be smarter in your purchases
You can make money if you sell something with a price tag between your cost and the actual selling prize. You can only enjoy profit when you buy items for low prize. Now is the time to pick up a new vendor or 2 through comparing what you are doing now and the other options that are available to you. Being competitively priced is going to be one way that they survive. There is no harm to competitively shop and drive your marketers to cut down prices in order to keep your business.
