Merging Commerce and Security: Integration That's Effortless

Whenever businesses implement new security processes, there's rarely ever a good reception from the employees. Management officials oftentimes remain cautious because any new processes that involve security integration slow activity down in certain departments, meaning that all projects will take a lot longer to get done. This slow-down usually causes the security department to take a black eye for the team, who is viewed as largely unproductive during this time.

The security department is first and foremost responsible for employee screening (that is verifying and ensuring the accuracy of claims of employees and employees of vendors) as well as latching down on rampant safety and security violations within companies. Though sometimes dismissed, this department is vital for commerce and security integration within the organization; each team member keeps profits in the bank by performing rigorous security credential verification checks and ensuring employees and new hires are up-to-date on security processes, thus protecting the company from lawsuits and other legal ramifications.

Implementing new processes can often save companies time and money if, for instance, they have employees and new hires take security tests online. This way, companies have instant access to information on employees' credentials and scores. Although with the economy the way it is, companies are often reluctant to outsource tasks and are more likely to look at means to cut costs rather than spend more. Usually, the last department to receive funding for heightened security integration is the security department as it does not generate revenue in the accepted sense. What the security department does do for a business, however, is ensure that profits stay within the company. The security department helps a company by maintaining the bottom line, but these efforts can often go without many corporate decision makers noticing the true value.

Outsource Employee Screening and Free Up the Security Department's Time

Outsourcing employee screening tasks to ensure safety requirements are upheld at all times does not have to be expensive and can even help the security department with its overall efficiency. Passing the job off to a company that specializes in security and employee screening guarantees that the security department and its company can stay lean and mean and continue to demonstrate ROI.

Many employee screening and background check companies specialize in performing verification searches to help organizations stay on a tight schedule and their security departments focus on larger, more pressing internal issues at hand. And contrary to popular belief, outsourcing does not need to be expensive or require a huge chunk of company funds - in fact, it will likely be a life saver should any security integration issues arise in the future from faulty employee screening or verification searches.

Speeding Up the Security Integration Process

A good example of neglecting comprehensive commerce and security integration is rampant theft. Take, for instance, a leading though anonymous pharmaceutical company. Before it had an employee screening contract in place, supervisors and shift workers had to report missing drugs on an honor system as well as vet and then secure an ID badge for a new hire after spending hours on just one person. With new employee screening and security measures in place, theft has gone down 85%, which is equivalent to millions of dollars saved for the pharmaceutical company.

Another example of the benefit that better commerce and security integration could have on ROI is seen on an intermodal facility. Usually operating with a loose security system in place, shipments can get backed up for hours. The supervisor takes ten minutes to walk up to each truck and speak with each driver separately, prolonging the time that could be spent moving the goods (and making more money). With an effective security procedure in place, drivers could simply scan their badges and get on with their shipments. This type of system generates more profits due to the increased speed of security integration and verification protocols.

Don't Neglect Meeting Security Requirements

Many employee screening, background check, and credential verification companies now offer easy security reports within just 24 hours or so. They also have the ability to provide handy ID badges that display names, photos, level of clearance, and any other pertinent information related to the job at hand. And for even greater functionality and security integration, companies such as these now offer web-based tools where existing employees, new hires, and potential candidates can take quizzes and review training materials on site with little overhead required.

Performing all the necessary employee screening searches - criminal background check, credit risk report, employment reference verification as well as the license and credential verification search - provides assurance that the new hire and/or potential candidate is prepared for the job and that the security department can now get back to what's most important - generating profits by dotting all of its I's and crossing all of its T's.

If something should happen, the fallout is usually upwards of a million dollars in lost profits or lawsuits. The immediate reaction is for management to blame the security department. But with better, faster, and more cost-effective alternatives, everyone - even management - is happier with the noticeable increase in profits and faster commerce and security integration of existing protocols.
