Should You or Shouldn’t You Organize Your Workforce Through a Professional Employer Organization?

First of all what is a Professional Employment Organization or (PEO) and how do they help businesses? Once you join with a PEO, you are essentially putting your employees on the books of that payroll company, who then leases your employees back to you. This may sound a little confusing but the benefits of another company being legally responsible for your workers can make a business owner relax.

By removing the frustrations of workers compensation, payroll taxes, pay checks and human resource issues, you are free to focus on running your business and creating a profit, not worrying about your employees getting worker’s compensation, health benefits or proper payroll. That is, if you go with the right professional employer organization.

Questions You Should Ask A Professional Employer Organization Before You Go With Them

  • Is the professional employer organization self-insured?

  • What other clients do they serve? Check with those clients, are they happy? Look and call around, if they are not happy, will you be?

  •
  • Is the professional employer organization you are looking into promoting work safety and dedicated to customer service and interested in continuance of improving payroll and other professional employer organization benefits?

Top Reasons Businesses Are Looking Into Professional Employer Organizations

  • Legality- a business can outsource all of the human resource related issues to another company, including legal responsibilities and other administrative responsibilities like worker’s comp which allows more time for a small business to do what they do best- run their business.

  •
  • Outsourced payroll services are offering more than small businesses expect such as 401k and excellent benefit packages.

  •
  • Professional employer organizations absorb the liability risk if there should be a payroll mistake.

  •
  • Having a professional employer organization service file business taxes and IRS reports can not only save time but eliminate costly penalties by errors done by a small business.

  •
  • Several time and money saving reasons including cost of payroll software, training and all the time researching tax and necessary IRS information can dwindle away countless hours that could have been productively spent on creating a profit while you focused on your own business- not the human resource details.

Professional Employment Organization are not for every business. Considering the time, the fees and taxes that overwhelm many businesses, businesses are choosing to go with a professional employer organization for the gift of time and hassle-free human resource benefits.
