Dim sum: yummy light and delicious

Call them ‘dim sums’ or call them ‘momos’, this Chinese dish from Canton (Guangzhou) has sure caught the fancy of Delhiites. Whether is a fancy 5-star hotel/restaurant or a market place, this dish will be found in every nook and corner of the city. Such is the craze for this light dish which is usually served with Chinese tea that some restaurants have started a promotional offer on it.

Hence, in order to cash on the average Delhiites love for this dish, PanAsian restaurant in Sheraton (MarriottWelcome Group) started a special dim sum brunch every Sunday. To start with the restaurant was only serving a variety of dim sums with Mongolian grilled dishes. However, slowly they introduced other things as well in order to give a wholesome, well rounded meal to its customers. And what a meal it is!

From dim sums to soup, salads and main course to desserts, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, the brunch is fit for a king. Since there is so much to eat one needs to decide what to eat and what to eliminate. The dim sums are a must. One can in that case forego the soup. With a choice of four vegetarian and four non-vegetarian dim sums, by the time one is through with them, the stomach is full. Relax take a deep breath and take each bite slowly in order to get the flavour and taste of each dim sum. They are hot, light, absolutely delicious and juicy. With filling of carrot and assorted vegetables, the dim sums are moist and melt in the mouth. The covering is not to chewy or heavy. The good part is one can eat as many of these and yet not feel full.

The chicken dim sums on the other hand are a little on the spicy side which is good. The beauty of eating these small snacks is that each shape is different from the other. It looks attractive and inviting. There is a reason why these dim sums, literally translated as ‘a bit of heart’, are called so. Each piece is made with utter care and love. It has to be folded properly, the filling just right – too much or too little will change the texture and the flavour of the dim sum. In case one does manage to stop from eating the dim sums head for the main course. This is just as good if not better. With a choice of chicken, lamb, fish and prawns the Mongolian grill comes with a variety of vegetables and sauces that one can choose from. If unsure, stick with the hot garlic or the three flavoured sauce (combination of spicy, hot garlic and sweet and sour).

The vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The grill which is made in an open kitchen area tickles the taste buds as the aroma reaches you. Again take a break. And then head for the assorted desserts. There is a whole range of pastries to choose from, one almost wished to have gone easy on the dim sums.
