Setting permissions

Help! How do I keep people out of my files?

Try this before calling us...

To change permissions:

1) Select the disk, folder, or file and choose File > Get Info. In the Get Info window, if the Sharing & Permissions pane is not visible, click the disclosure triangle to show it.
2) Click the lock icon, type your user name and password, and click OK.
3) To add a user or group, click the Add (+) button, and then do one of the following:

•Click New Person, enter a name and password for the account, and then click Create account. Select the user in the list and then click Select.

• Click Address Book, select a contact in your address book, and then click Select. Assign a password to the new sharing account, and then click Create Account.

4) To choose a permission for yourself or another user, select from the pop-up menus in the Privilege column
Read & Write: Allows a user to open the item to see its contents and change it.
Read Only: Allows a user to open the item to see its contents, but not change the contents or copy them.
Write Only: Makes a folder into a drop box. Users can copy items to the drop box, but cannot open the drop box to see its contents. Only the owner of the drop box can open it to take items out.
No Access: Blocks all access to the item so that users can’t open the item, change its contents, or copy its contents.
To apply the same permissions to every item contained in the selected folder or disk, open the Action (gear) menu and choose “Apply to enclosed items.”
5) To choose a different owner for the item, select the new owner in the Name column, and then open the Action (gear) menu and choose “Make ‘Name’ the owner.”
6) To remove a user or group, select the user or group, and then click the Remove (-) button.

If this does not work call or email us for an appointment.
