Hypertext Markup Language or HTML
has always been the basic language in developing a website. Although various automated software platforms have been introduced to simplify website creation, HTML remains of utmost importance in creating web pages. It is a vital tool in web design and people interested in such a course can learn it either in a traditional school or online.
Online HTML courses and tutorials
are offered for a fee while some are even offered for free if you are only resourceful. Taking an online class is very convenient as it allows you to learn at your own pace and time. But while online classes may sometimes take too long or get very structured, a great alternative is utilizing online tutorials which are easy to understand.
So what exactly is HTML and what does it cover?
HTML primarily involves elements which have two properties – the attributes and content. Elements make use of labels or tags which are of two types – start or open label and end or closing label. The attributes are those contained in the start label while the content is the one specified between the labels. Some elements, though, need no content as well as closing tag.
Tags or labels are important in writing HTML.
Each tag has its own purpose and if you understand them well, you will learn to write HTML more easily. In simple terms, tags specify how a text should appear in a web page say, bold or italic, and they can also serve as a command in order to insert a photo, make links to other sites or insert a sound on a certain page. The web browser then interprets these tags and displays the entire web page.
Tags are not case-sensitive and usually come in pairs and are enclosed in with the ending tag having the / sign. So, the five basic tags used in a web page include, according to their order:
What is HTML all about?
The basic tags
The head part of the HTML document contains the title of the web page. The body contains all the text, which has six sizes. It also includes other tags especially those that will link your page to other websites as well as those that will provide your page with images and sounds.
Keep in mind too that HTML is not very particular about white space as everything will still get compressed in one space.
Another important thing to consider when using HTML is the typeface or fonts in simple computer terminology. When webmasters were still using the early versions of HTML, they had no control over the fonts. The fonts then were displayed according to the browser the user specifies.
But with the latest versions, web designers can already choose their preferred typeface. The reason for this is the varying dimensions of fonts such that one type may not format properly in another.
In both the Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh operating systems, the most useful fonts are the Times Roman, Verdana, Georgia and Trebuchet with the addition of Arial for the Mac.
Overall, studying HTML is not that difficult at all and it’s a great advantage for people wishing to come up with their own websites or blogs for personal fulfillment.
